The game update has pretty much ruined my game

I have a game I've been working on now and just started feeling comfortable with the OLD interface. Two questions:

1. I don't want the latest update at this time. Can I revert back to the previous version? This doesn't feel like the same game anymore and I'm not ready for it.

2. All of my planets have massive unemployment and the pops are not happy. All of my buildings that I once had with upgrades are completely gone and I don't have enough energy now in my stores to upgrade my buildings to make my population happy.

You can revert back to an older version.

Go to the game's properties on steam. select betas and you can patch to the previous version.

If my memory not cheating on me me it's possible to revert uptades. But, in fact the new update produce a new game and we need to learn to deal with the news systems. The hardness you have been experiense is because you aring play the game whith the mindset of previously updates, take time to learn the new system and you will back to enjoy the game and probaly will enjoy them much more you like rigth now.

There was a big window in the middle of the screen when you first loaded Stellaris post 2.2 that explained that it would break saves and how to use an old version. How exactly did you miss this?

You can revert version if you want, but there was a HUGE window at the beginning saying that new patch is going to break all saves. I can't imagine you missed it

I didn't miss the window, but it only appeared after Steam automatically updated my version anyway. I was never asked if I wanted to update. The patch was a gift that I was planning to install after I completed my current campaign.

I wonder, who is the ~genius~ who thought it was a good idea to automatically update somebody's software without asking?

BTW: The instructions for reverting didn't work. There is nothing in the list of versions in my betas tab.

You can choose in steam to keep games up to date or not.

So you are the genius

You can't do that anymore.

Anyways, I thought modders and players alike would have learned by now, by the pattern of Stellaris' development. This isn't anything new, but in case OP is new, rule number one is pretty much don't try to have a really long game or get too attached to it. You can however always revert back to the previous versions.

Reverting version will not prevent you from getting achievements. It is also a good way for you to finish your unfinished business.

Bit of a problem though - if you've opened the save file in the new version, it *might* not be salvageable even if you revert to 2.1. Not 100% sure if that's how it is now, but I believe when 2.0 came out simply opening an old save file in the new version permanently corrupted it.

But as others have said, Steam automatically updates unless you tell it not to, it has nothing to do with Paradox or Stellaris. That's why the big splash screen is there, which should have given the instructions on how to revert back to finish games. 100% on the player if they choose to ignore that and push forward anyways.

Best reason never to use steam. Can't believe they now disabled the autoupdate-disabling function. Sometimes it really seems they're actively trying to exacerbate their infamous reputation. But what I really came here to ask: Are you *the* Baldecaran from NWN by any chance? I was startled to come upon your name here. Your Prophet series is *the* best narrative RPG ever created save for Planescape Torment. I just needed to show my appreciation, is all. Cheers!

The Genius is called you. You told steam to autoupdate your games. Or you didnt told steam it shouldnt. However...but even though it auto updated the big window exactly told how to revert. Maybe sometimes it is a good idea to read

You sure? If Steam still has an option to stop auto-updating, it's been moved someplace I can't find it.

But yeah, he still could have followed the revert instructions.

Really? Do you know Ecosia? Try it its like Google. You go to the game. Right click. Properties. Updates. Drop Down. Only update this game when launched. Then you can abort the download if it tries to update. Or for global Settings you go into Steam Properties. Downloads. Download Restrictions. Only update between idk 12am to 12am. Voila no Auto-Update.

Tha's... not exactly a way to tell Steam to not update the game, you know. It's a kludgey workaround. And a bit inefficient compared to just puling out the internet connection before playing.
