The game horizon for strategy gamers look good indeed.

First two great games get the number 3..

CIV 3
MOO 3

And the teams get a lot of money, meaning quality probably will be good. 17 people working on MOO3. And the people that are working on MOO3, 'got to love them'
Check out the forums at their site.

This game will kick ass..

The news are that the game is now playable. For example the Galaxy, Planets, Tech is allready there.

Some info I snapped up.
(Great FAQ at the site)
12 diffrent hulls 3 sizes for each. 36 3D ships per species. You will be able to change color and so on.

Completly new tech engine.
With base tech fields and based on these fields you research applications that you can use.

Diplomacy reworked there will be talking aliens :)

Music/sound fx is done by same that did it for example Baldurs Gate 1-2.

New Enemy the Harvesters.

There is a lot more information on the homepage.

The graphics for CIV3 don't look bad either and same situation here good baking with money and a lot of good people working on it.

Just check out the CIV3 homepage and the MOO3 homepage.. Both these games will kick ass.

For Moo3 be warned stay awhile stay forever.

Are there any actual pictures of ships or anything in the game? Or just lots of info.

I am also waiting for Road to Moscow.

BUT, anyone remember news of a game called Conflict of Nations. It was a world war one grand strategy and development simulation with 'floating heads' - seriously!

The screen shots looked rather inticing and it was being developed by Sega! (again - seriously).

It has never been cancelled as such, but the Sega web-site has had no mention of this for a couple of years.

Do you think I should give up on this now, or has anyone had any news. I honestly think that no-one will remember this.

I'd be grateful for any information.

Storm.

Defcon certainly looks intriguing, with its massive amounts of data and 'neural theory.' But I'll wait to see what they've got before I put it on my list. Anonyme is a game-maker without a track record (known to me) & I haven't heard any comments on the game itself from any respected reviewers. I'm interested, but as of now, I will leave it off the list & say:

1. EU
2. Tropico
3. Civ 3
4. War in the Southwest Pacific (or whatever the title is)
5. Combat Mission 2
6. Jagged Alliance 3
7. MOO 3
8. Gangsters 2
9. Deus Ex 2
10. Sea Dogs 2 (in hopes of better funding & thus better QC)

Civ 3 might give EU a run for its money except that there wasn't all that much difference between Civ & Civ 2. Thus I fear Civ 3 will have a few spiffed-up graphics but remain largely the same game.

If Jagged Alliance 3 is as much better than JA2 as JA2 was better than the original JA, it could zoom straight to the top of the list. (I'm just afraid that this time, instead of being primarily concerned with making a better game, Sir-Tech will be primarily concerned with making more $$$ (3D & multiplayer). Not that I blame them--they deserved more $$$ for JA2.)

Gangsters 2 is another intriguing one. Gangsters was fantastically fun--for a while. Unfortunately, 2-3 weeks (game time) into the game, it became exponentially more difficult to manage--plus it was almost impossible to win.

GAMES I WOULD MOST LIKE TO SEE

1. A tactical simulation of the Civil War Eastern Front. The area is small enough--say from Philadelphia to somewhere south of Richmond--that, with today's computers, a detailed map of the entire area could be available. From there, it's up to you to use your resources to produce & train units, then to use those units to find & defeat the hideous enemy.

I would like to see it leader-based--i.e., you can't command a battle unless you're on the field, but you also have to spend time in Richmond or Washington attending to politics!

The tough part is that there has to be some kind of segue between strategic mode & tactical mode--but it's do-able. Look at Jagged Alliance 2 for an example!

2. This one's a bit easier, although not quite as promising. A good, detailed air/ground/naval simulation of the battle for Guadalcanal--the most fascinating combined-arms military campaign in world history, IMHO. (Gary Grigsby has already done the air/naval part--all that needs to be added is a detailed ground simulation based on the troops & supplies that are delivered by sea.)

MOO3
There are screenshots of something that looks like an ingame 'show the ship stats' thingy.
There are also a lot of downloadable .avi files too, which I belive includes more screenshots (haven't downloaded, on a modem).

Ground Battle system is basicly finished & 'playable' on the site too.

As for the release date, PC slated for January 2002. Currently they state to be on track ...
