The game suddenly stopped working

The game was working just fine until I tried to open it now. I get this error message:

Does anyone know what I can do to fix it?

Yupp. I had to ctrl+Alt+Delete to make it stop. I have verified the steam files two times re-installed the game and still get that Java script error. Nothing has worked so far.

I have also tried both re-installing the game and the Paradox launcher but nothing works here either

I got the same problem. Was going to have a pleasant evening but Paradox got other plans for me

Same here. More than one paradox game had this issue. Uninstalled and reinstalled with no luck. Seems to be very recent as worked fine yesterday.

I ran into to this issue around 3- Hours ago, I did some looking and the fix (for me ) seems to be to uninstall the paradox launcher, Relaunch the game which then makes it reinstall the paradox launcher. However upon closing the game and then relaunching i get the same error

We now have reports of this on AVG, Avast and possibly Kaspersky.

You need to make sure all these apps are in its exceptions lists:

dowser.exe (in the Steam Eu4 folder)
C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2.2020.17/paradox launcher.exe
C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/bootstrapper-v2.exe

What worked for was deleting the folder of the latest launcher (launcher-v2.2020.17 is the name, and I located it using the task manager), forcing the game to use the previous launcher, that is working just fine. However the update is downloaded automatically when launching the application, so I have to repeat this process of deleting the folder each time I exit the game.

The previous launcher version will be in the antivirus app's safe list now. The new one will not.

Same issue here. The launcher reinstall solution does work, but only once every time I boot the game. I already added the executables to antivirus exclusion lists, nothing changed.

My issue is with HoI4 to be precise, but it's the same problem. Launcher files and the HoI equivalent of dowser.exe appear to be in the right place.

Try deleting C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/ and run the game from the Steam PLAY button again. The launcher will reinstall and update, if you then exit it and restart it you should be fine from then on.
