The Game says my just born Son is inbred...

I've always been very careful about making sure there's no inbreeding in my family, so I was more than a little shocked when the kid turned up Inbred. So I back checked his mother, and there really isn't any inbreeding going on there. Mom and Dad are totally unrelated. So how did my son get Inbred?

Fortunately he's way down in the list of succession, but this is more than a little worrying...

It's not likely, but it may happen. I have pollinated countless wives-of-other-people and they still believed the child was legitimate, so I guess it may happen the other way around too.

Reading the wiki, it is speculated that the chance to get inbred is based on characters DNA. DNA is generated by taking 1/2 the father, 1/2 the mother and at least 1 random. Could this random give you inbred, possibly, I don't know if anyone knows yet. There is speculation that inbred is based on the delta of the DNA between the parents. Thus, it is also possible, although unlikely, that two completely unrelated characters could have similar DNA (based on the random). Again, a lot of speculation.

If I recall the traits.txt file has a random chance modifier and a seperate inherit chance modifier. It may have, as other posters have said, just cropped up as an unlucky die roll. It's also possible, just extremely unlikely, that despite not sharing a common heritage, parallel convergence might have resulted in a mating pair that had similar enough genes to trigger the inbred trait. I don't think CK2 gene sequences are all that long or complex.

At least in the current traits file, there is no chance to be born randomly with the inbred trait (through the traits mechanics, I don't know about DNA).

Yep. When he hit Sixteen years old he got Incapable, so I just let him live, and didn't bother marrying him off. He did in less than a month. I rped it as my ruler just making sure he was comfortable up to the end as the whole court just knew he wasn't long for this world...

I believe any hereditary trait gives you a slightly better percentage to get all of the other ones including inbred. So if a one parent had genius, strong, quick, attractive one of the kids could get inbred.

I'm pretty sure it's not DNA. You can use "charinfo 1" to see the debug info, including DNA. I once adopted a child and married the strong, super-well educated, adopted kid to my heir, and their children were mostly inbred, DNA between them was completely different. I think they calculate it on chance that increases based on relationship (siblings, cousins, parents, etc).

Inbred there is also a chance that it happens , even if nobody is even closely related .
So nothing you can do about it , simply pick people with good traits .

Infact even with BS PC marriages , the first generation don't suffer from it much .
It is later generations that really it becomes like popcorn happenings .

More than likely someone somewhere is misinformed as to their true father. It could be that your uncle/father/grandfather/etc had a "tumbling" with your wife or her mother/grandmother; with the new relations system, I've found myself making secret "contributions" to other dynasties noticeably more often. Then there's also the question of are you sure your father is really your father? Is your wife's family in the same realm as yours? Was her father a trusted member of the council, friend to your father (and mother).

IIRC DNA works as 11 genes with 16 possible characters. So the chance of identical DNA would be 1 in 17 trillion, this should give you a clue as to how often characters share enough DNA often enough to have inbreeding with random, unrelated DNA. Not bloody likely. But that assumes DNA is even how that works, whereas DNA might be purely cosmetic. You can't get inbred randomly I'm almost positive. A cuckolding is almost always possible (this is CK 2 for crying-out-loud). If anything unusual can be explained by illicit sex, then that's probably the explanation.

My guess: Uncle Ludwig couldn't work up the courage to tell you before your wedding, but there's something you ought to know about that girl...

there is always a chance of inbred , it is never 0% .
