The game is not working

hi, I have the following problem. When I start the game with steam the game doesn't work and I see the red sign "launching the game failed". When I start it via the game file (eu4.exe) the game works, I hear music, the cursor disappears but the image does not go appears and the task manager shows the status: not responding, can you help me?

Just wait awhile for the game screen to appear. That's how I launch eu4 these days

You could try to go to your steam library, right click on EU4 -> Properties -> Local files -> Verify integrity of game files

Did you already try to run the game in borderless fullscreen instead of normal fullscreen? That usually fixes problems which are similar to what you describe when you started eu4.exe directly.

Do I understand you correctly that the game works now if you start eu4.exe directly, but it doesn't work if you start it through steam?
That means that the problem is related to the launcher. Usually it is one of the following problems:

• you configured the game to run as administrator, but the launcher doesn't run as administrator. In that case disable the option to run the game as administrator
• you have an antivirus or ransomware protection software that prevents the launcher from writing its files. In that case you have to add the launcher(and eu4) to the exception list of your software
  • If you have Windows Defender(also called Microsoft Defender), add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list(here are instructions for that).
  • If you have bitdefender, add the launcher to the list of ransomware exceptions and "give it access" to "protected files".
• the launcher installation is broken. That can be can often be fixed by reinstalling the launcher:
  • First use the windows uninstall function to uninstall "Paradox Launcher v2"(if it is there).
  • Then delete the launcher directories:
    • C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
    • C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
    • C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
    • Documents/paradox interactive/.cpatch/
    • every directory in Documents/paradox interactive/ that starts with launcher-v2
  • Afterwards you can start the game from steam again to reinstall the launcher.
