So, I got this mission to take the province of Makassar. It gives me a claim on the province, allowing me to declare war on them with a conquest CB. I do it and occupy their territory, but now the game is telling me I can't take the provinces because I can't core them. So what was the point of giving me this mission, then? Is this an oversight? Last time I played EU4, you could annex oversea provinces.

When they changed the India and Spice Islands missions to target specific provinces I think they left out the range triggers as I've seen the same happen. In my case, I knew I wasn't close to having the range so I ignored the mission but it definitely is annoying and bugged that they will fill mission slots with missions you can't complete without more tech and/or ideas.

Yes unfortunately the range check got lost when some changes were made to the Spice Island missions.

It's actually 'only' the Spice Island missions. It has also been fixed internally :)

There are still other missions that are "impossible". You have 3 vassals. A+B for 10+ years, C for 3 years. You get a mission to integrate vassal C.
You have 3 rivals. A+B have no truce, C has 10 years truce left. You get a mission to conquer province X of C. Or you get a rival of a rival mission for a country you just fought a war with one month ago and have taken half their provinces... yeah, get them to 100 with the was at war, hostile relations and want's your provinces penalty.

Any plan to fix those as well? When you can check coring range you should be able to check for truces and integration timers.

How is it impossible to integrate C? Just wait 3 darn years and annex.
Again, same with truces - wait until the truce ends.
Don't understand how are these goals impossible.

That's different though. It just means you picked a mission that will take 7+ years to complete.

I feel like in such cases it's up to the player to not take missions that are "not worth it". This is a bit different from the Spice Island one since that one's sort of a gotcha. Here it's logically consistent that you will have a hard time making this country that hates you into a friend, and yet with time, possible.

Don't understand how are these goals impossible.

That's why I used "impossible". Why make a mission with C that you can't complete for the next 10 years when you could do it for country A and B.
The Spice mission is not impossible, just wait 10 years until you have the next tech to get increased coring range or you have finished your exploration ideas.

I feel like in such cases it's up to the player to not take missions that are "not worth it".

You have 3 missions available:

1. Conquer province X from rival A you have a 10 year truce with while you have no truce with rival B and C
2. Integrate A that you have vassalized a year ago while you could integrate vassal B and C right now
3. Rival of Rival. Get to +100 relations with country X when you are already at -100, while there are 5 other rival of rivals that are at +10 already.

Yes, it's not impossible, but it would be nice if missions would be a bit more clever. When they can give missions depending on province distance, then it should be possible to give missions depending on vassalage duration and relations or truces.

The mission rewards are strong and it is frustrating to get the right missions for the wrong target while possible targets are there.

I think the mission system needs a major overhaul:

- Mission dependencies on truce timers / relations / vassalage duration / possible to convert in the next x years etc.
- Maybe you could manually select the targeted country / province?
- Missions that give a bonus while doing them and give a penalty when you can't finish them (like the trade company missions where the want you to conquer a province. When you don't do it in x years you get a tradepower (?) penalty). You could get the +missionary strength for accepting the mission and when you can't finish it in x years you get a penalty of -1 missionary strength for y years. Or conquer province X of a rival and you get +manpower recovery and -army maintenance while the mission is active. When you can't conquer it you will get a penalty to prestige and moral.
