Insert Sid Meier jokes here I guess :D

But no doubt the colony will forever be known to those back on Earth as "Colony McColonyface", and rightly so! :D It was odd that you discovered artifacts from an ancient alien civilization "on Teersonia IV", a gas giant. Isn't that kind of weird?

Quite odd indeed. I have a feeling that the poor Terran scientists spent a lot time and effort sifting through a First League garbage dump.

Piracy on the Rise

June 20, 2208: Hong Kong, Earth- Naval Command has issued a warning to all civilian ships operating in interstellar space, after a string of pirate attacks left several civilian ships missing or destroyed. While the occasional pirate attack is not unheard of, the scale and ferocity of these attacks have caught the Navy off guard. After initially believing the attacks to be the work of a lone pirate captain, Naval Command now believes that the attacks are being perpetrated by an organized crime syndicate, operating from a hidden base in a nearby star system. So far the Office of Naval Intelligence has been unable pinpoint the location of this secret pirate base, but remains confident that they will have a location soon. Until then all civilian ships are advised to remain on high alert and to immediately report any information that may lead to the capture or destruction of the pirate stronghold.

Fleet Destroys Pirate Hideout

June 6, 2209: Hong Kong, Earth- Earlier today the Navy managed to destroy a pirate base located in the Haramuth System. The pirate hideout, whose location had long remained a mystery to Naval Command, was finally revealed after a failed pirate raid on a facility in the Barnard’s Star System. After successfully defending Barnard’s Star the Office of Naval Intelligence was able to determine the location of the pirate base by tracing the pirate ships warp signatures back to the Haramuth System. Upon confirmation of the base’s existence, the 1st Fleet was immediately dispatched to the Haramuth System, and after a brief battle emerged victorious. Following the destruction of the pirate base Naval Command introduced new security measures designed to better protect civilian shipping lanes, and law enforcement has begun a crackdown on organized crime in the Federation. With these new measures in place it seem unlikely that we will ever see organized piracy on this scale again, though individual pirate ships may continue to harass shipping in the future. For now however, our civilian captains can rest at ease knowing the worst of the pirate crisis has passed.

Volkov Secures Election

April 2, 2210: New York City, Earth- After a tight three way race Polina Volkov has defeated her political opponents to become the second President of the Terran Federation. Prior to her election Volkov was a Senator and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Exploration and Colonization. She first gained national recognition for her active role in the Alpha Centauri Colonization Initiative, and later for her criticism of the Ward Administration’s lack of funding for scientific endeavors. As part of her campaign platform Volkov has promised to increase Federal spending on several research initiatives and to open up new research facilities. Volkov will be officially sworn in later this month.

Colony Established in the Sirius System

November 27, 2211: Armstrong, Sirius- Colonist landed on Sirius III earlier today officially founding Humanity’s second extrasolar colony. After making planetfall the colonists named the new colony Armstrong, in honor of Neil Armstrong, the first human to walk on the moon. Colonists at Armstrong are hoping to take advantage of the planets plentiful and easily accessible mineral deposits to set up mining and refining facilities. However colonization efforts face a unique challenge, as the planet’s surface is routinely struck by meteorites and asteroids. Despite this scientists remain confident that the risk to the colony is minimal, as any colony-threatening asteroid will be easy to detect and intercept. Regardless of the challenges and risks involved the establishment of a second colony is an important step to ensuring Humanity’s future as an interstellar species.

Mission to Vurl-Gaqts

November 20, 2213: Vul-Gaqts, Sabtrok System- Dozens of Xenoanthropologists, Engineers, and Diplomats are making their way to the Sabtrok System today to formally open the diplomatic mission to Vurl-Gaqts. After the discovery of the Quvarian Civilization a debate about how to best to handle less technologically advanced civilizations broke out. Some Xenoanthropologists argued for nonintervention while others argued it was Humanity’s duty to guide and protect less advanced civilizations. Eventually Parliament came to a compromise and decided on a policy of non-intervention of Pre-Space Age civilizations, while rapidly advancing those civilizations that had mastered basic spaceflight. A few months ago the first Quvarian spaceflight was detected and construction of a facility to help the Quavarian to transition to a faster than light society, was ordered. With construction on the facility finally complete diplomats are eager to make first contact, though some concerns remain as Quvarian society is highly militarized and religiously motivated. Despite concerns most people believe that Quvarian society can be channeled to the benefit of all, and that a new age of galactic cooperation is dawning.

Ah, future allies - benefiting from human benevolence.:D

Navy Unveils Class of Starship

January 5, 2216: Armstrong, Sirius- Naval Command unveiled a new class of starships today at a ceremony on Port Gagarin. The starships, designated Rapier, were commissioned to replace the old Coyote class corvette, which was in service since the founding of the Federation. Although the full specifications of the Rapier remain classified, the Navy was willing to show off some of its key features, including first generation deflector shields and an improved weapons loadout. The Rapier class corvette is expected to fully replace the old Coyote class by the end of this year.

A very nice upgrade

Quvarian Form Unified Government

March 3, 2217: Vurl-Gaqts, Sabtrok- Today in an elaborate ceremony, the Quvarian people, with the help of the Terran Federation, formed the first united government of Vurl-Gaqts. At the ceremony’s conclusion President Polina Volkov and President Obr-Pwot signed a treaty of cooperation, further strengthening the special relationship between the Human and Quvarian people. Under the terms of the treaty the Terran Federation has agreed to protect and defend the independence of the Republic of Sabtrok and to continue to share their technological advancements. In exchange the Republic of Sabtrok has agreed to tie their foreign policy to the Federation’s and to enter any wars the Terran Federation may find itself in. While a majority of Quvarians support the treaty and the relationship with the Terran Federation, some outspoken Quavarians have questioned the nature of this relationship and have vowed to end it. Fortunately such voices seem to be relegated to fringe elements of Quvarian society, but policy experts warn that if the relationship between Humans and Quvarians becomes too imperious such voices will only grow and become louder. For now however the Human and Quvarian people stand united against whatever the galaxy throws at them.

Terra Nova Joins Federation

August 1, 2217: Terra Nova, Alpha Centauri- Terra Nova made history today after becoming the first non-Earth based member of the Terran Federation. Previously the planet had been governed as a territory of the Terran Federation, restricting its members in Parliament to non-voting roles and denying them the right to vote in Presidential elections. That changed today after the Assembly of Terra Nova convened to officially petition Parliament for statehood. After brief deliberations, both houses of Parliament passed a resolution formally recognizing Terra Nova as the newest member of the Terran Federation. Elections for Terra Nova’s first voting representatives will be held later this year but until then, the non-voting representatives currently in Parliament have been empowered to act on Terra Nova’s behalf.
