It's just a plattform that decreases the market fee by 10% that pops up once the nomination is over.

It should be much more - a special habitat with a lot of trade value that grows with the galactic economy and it's technological progress - building gateways/galactic stock exchange that decrease market fee instead of just researching a tech for example.

It also shouldn't just pop up in another system if fanatical purifiers and their like capture the system. Instead it should give them ressources that couldn't be evacuated and make the galactic market inaccessible till a replacement is build.

And as for ressources, they shouldn't be created out of thin air but come from the economies of the participating nations including special factions like marauders, xura corp, carvaneers. Ressources should be purchasable even if one doesn't own the ressource themselves which would actually make a single instance of Zro more valuable even for empires without psionics (that and more uses for the rare res') and it would add an option to get it peacefully.

Speaking of stations I once read a suggestion about giving enclaves habitat like stations sadly it hasn't been picked up. It would help a lot, they would be much more in the game having their own pops properly represented, an actual economy (with unique buildings - matter replicators for Merchant Corps?), more interesting for conquerors and less of a pushover for endgame crisis.

All good stuff in this thread. I'd add that there could be more diplomacy factored into being awarded the Galactic Market hub in the first place. Perhaps it could be a combination of economic power and diplomatic agreements with other empires that makes you the best candidate for the focus of galactic trade.

Competition between multiple galactic markets would be delicious... Then have the goods actually shipped to the nearest Capital/Silo in the empire ordering it, with potential Pirate issues.

Also have requests for goods show up in Markets faster if they're safer. Insta-delivery is wasting a huge potential for fun and depth here. Empires that are friendly to you might offer cheaper overall shipments.

Does sound like something that would be awesome for the Diplomacy pack.

Yeah that's more like the tier 2 solution I thought of and we will most likely have to wait for the Espionage/Diplomacy DLC for that.
The simpler fix definetely is beefing up the station(s).

The way that piracy/marauders/unclaimed space are and work is not in any way realistic nor is the instant access to resources in any part of your empire but that takes much more work to change than having a delay on buying/selling, limits on quantity that depend on supply & demand and piracy around the market hub station affecting the amount that you receive from trades and relations to other nations participating in the galactic market.

But in the end I do want the buzzing of civilian ships that we see in some loading screens and not just as eye-candy but graphical representation of an interstellar economy.

Yeah I havent even bothered to complain about the galactic market yet, since... where do you start? Its just so lacking that there is almost nothing to complain about.

Features lacking depth and the associated disappointment is one of my greatest motivations for modding the game. A feature sells a DLC, not increasing the depth of an existing feature. It is my greatest dislike of the gaming industry, because PDX don't really have any choice. Spending time deepening existing features just isn't as profitable as adding content for an existing feature (eg portraits, new authority, new civics etc.).

At least PDX does try to rework features as part of the free updates, but honestly, there's not been a rework of a feature that I've really liked. This new economy model is probably an exception, but other features linked to it I do agree feel very lacking, like the galactic market. Here's hoping it will get expanded on.

edit - Distant Stars is a good example of successfully expanding the content of a feature and selling it, though. Perhaps they could try monetising other feature expansions in the future.

I agree it's lacking, especially with the mega corp dlc it should have more depth.
The most annoying thing about it to me is that the AI can start the event chain without the player if they contact 50% of other empires first, leaving the player out of the running entirely.

Careful what you wish for. Energy for example is always in short supply. And the AI economy is not efficient. So its just too easy atm to have a market where most goods just aren't traded.

Hey Guys,

I know it is very easy to stray into but real world earth comparisons, and discussion about real world earth history in general, is considered off topic for all the stellaris forums.

Just a friendly message to make sure you guys don't stray into too deep off topic waters. 3 posts have been deleted for off topic.

Thanks,
Dylan

I think the main issue with the galactic market is there isnt enough info seems like a black box I dont know if the galactic market is really effected by the rest of the world but if it is would be great to know who is buying or selling what. I still generally try to have a balanced economy but guess it could potentially make sense to concentrate on something to sell.

Interesting additions to this:
- Give a possibility to tax the market. Increases the trade value in the system by quite a lot (typically dependant on the amount of galactic trade going on). Setting the tax rate for this should be done prior to the system being awarded, and lower rates would increase the system attractiveness.
- Increase in piracy and crime in a system with the galactic market. It is a hub of commerce, and that does bring some dark sides as well.
- Add a close galactic market decision, this should increase the market fee for everyone for awhile, until the market is reestablished elsewhere.
