Great writing in this update! I understand that it must have been a lot of work.

Internal conflicts within Labour are intense, but one thing is sure, and it is that the young, convincing, skilled and promising man that Gaitskell already worked with in the previous elections might be of aid during these too, and he surely will have an important role in the future. ;)

This did little for party unity in the long term, however, and battles between the Tribunite left if the party and the establishment right continued into the Gaitskell years and beyond, surviving in figures such as Michael Foot and the maximalists of the Militant tendency faced down by Healey and Kinnock in the eighties.

Hattersley and Best David get shafted again... :(

Great update, I'm glad you finally got around to getting those images sorted. Speaking of, with all these brutal civil wars raging within the Labour Party between Bevanites and the soon-to-be Gaitskellites, one can't help but find Eden's electoral slogan to be especially apposite.

Thanks Loup! I'm happy the update proved worth the extended wait.

Don't worry, you haven't seen the last of him yet. :p

Would you have rather I listed everyone involved in fighting Militant? :p

Glad to hear you enjoyed the update! Eden's slogan is, of course, apposite – for now, anyway.

If anyone missed the update due to it being on the last page, please have a look by following this link. All comments are highly valued, so feel free to make your opinions known. :)

Otherwise, I hope not to keep you all waiting as long for the next part of the chapter.

Thanks for the update (yes, I'm a bit late, but better late than never right ? :) ).

Interesting to see all the tension in the labour party. I am not familiar with English politics, but you make it easy to follow (and I had to search for some names that I didn't know, which is nice by the way).

Add Healey to the mix and you could call it the catalogue of shits. :p

And excellent motto to live by I always find. :)

I'm glad to hear that! It's always nice as an AAR writer to learn that one's work has actually turned people onto wider reading.

No comment. :p

Well, interesting conflicts within the Labour Party, and it seems Gaitskell has some work to do before he can assume leadership of the Party. Regardless, with the election, it is now the time for the Labour Party to focus on the real enemy, the Conservatives!

I'd have thought that Roy Jenkins would have played a more major role within this. Roy Jenkins alongside Anthony Crosland, Shirley Williams. et cetera.

There's plenty of time for them to make an appearance, It's still early days yet after all. ;)

Thanks, Jee! (And sorry for taking an age to get back to you.) Gaitskell is by no means an heir apparent, but then the field isn't that large.

Yes, have no fear. Jenkins and all of the rest of the CDS will feature prominently later on.

For now, however,Gaitskell still has to win the leadership. ;)

Quite right, too!

More names for the eagerly awaited catalogue of shits? :p

I could have sworn that you liked the SDP once upon a time… :p

Oh, I love the SDP so much I can quote the passage in Time to Declare where Owen speaks of how much of an honour it is to be called a shit by Denis Healey. It's a term of endearment I use with love. ;)

The SDP, or the best way of keeping the Conservatives in charge. And people complain about the Labour Left...

Don't go there, I'll do to you and your naive ignorance what Khrushchev wanted to do to Kennedy, only I won't chicken out out of fear of nuclear war. ;)

Don't worry, I won't here, to avoid a derail of Densley's AAR.

Calm down people, we can hopefully all agree that Thatcher was an awful person. We should only accept the fact that in a Labour Leadership election purity of thought matters more than in a Conservative leadership election; which forms the basis and culmination of struggle in the Labour Party - between those who want first and foremost to win and those who want first and foremost a real socialist and in our time a real social democratic Labour Party.

An awful person? While she does seem to have had a personality which does not correspond with mine, I don't think her own person is the matter. That is something I'd like to blame on many left-wing individuals, that like to attack personalities rather than actual policies and her ideology, which was what was awful. I do however share your thoughts on the Labour Party Leadership, and it will be interesting to see how Densley will portray it.

I hope Densley is grateful for all this new activity and is seriously considering the prospect of writing a new update sometime soon. :)

Lost on me, I must admit. Needless to say, everything now makes much more sense!

Of course I'm grateful. :)

As for an update, to use an apposite analogy I am considering the prospect of writing in rather the same way that a Bennite would consider the prospect of winning an election. :p

Quashed as I was in getting anything up before Easter, I dare say we can all look forward to the end of June as a new target – unless Ms. Morgan is feeling uncharacteristically charitable, of course.
