HOI has always been the most successful game of each generation. Stellaris might beat it, but probably not on initial sales.
CK2 and then EU4 beat HOI3. Yeah it was the strongest till CK2 same along, it'll be interesting to see if it can keep up with the others. I may be wrong about this, but it's my impression from what I have seen on the forum.

Well, personally, I'l make sure to get both, Stellaris and HoI4... So no winner there, or let's say no loser :). But Also I feel one should rather compare EU3 and HoI3, not EU4 as the latter was a giant leap forwards for the entire grand strategy genre, at least in my perception. We'll have to see whether HoI4 lives up to that. I sure hope so.

The way I see it you either die a hero or you see yourself become the constantly broken, sprawling, incoherent feature-creep mess that is CKII.


I'd rather have a limited strech in time deeply and coherently modelled. Extending the timeline significantly will result in lame mediocrity.

What It seems like to me is that the current fans of HOI are worried that if they open the timeframe to greater timeline content, they will lose the Quality that has been placed into what I like to call ''game changers'' (in this case WW2) in one of my posts on EU4 we are talking about this.

So all the fans can really do is look at past games of this company to compare.. So I do understand.

What it really comes down to I guess is the effectiveness in which Paradox can improve its quality of content within its time delegation into their specific ''game changer events'' in a greater timeframe of game.

Such as in EU4 we have ''The Age Of Discovery" " The Age Of Colonization" 'The Early Industrial Age'' all these events appeal to different people.. greater audience but that requires a balance between Quantity vs Quality management by Paradox. ( one aspect in the Greater target market vs Greater Quality Niche fan Base)
