The year is 1792.

It has been over 2 years since the French revolution. Europe is shocked by the events in France and the monarchs of Europe plan for the restoration of the French monarchy.
France, now under a revoltuionary government faces many problems, from abroad and at home. Royalists are building up for major revolts in the areas of the west ofb France, and the armies of Austria, Prussia and Sardinia-Piedmont are massing at the borders.
The French have only 2 armies operating at the start of 1792, the army of the north, under General Kellermann and the Army of the Rhien and Moselle under General Adam Custine.
Kellermann is an elderly, but brilliant general, wereas the daring Custien is more suited to raiding than full out warfare, but still these men, and many more are the defensive line between liberty and death.
Armies are being formed and men drafted, the wars are coming.
There is little time to prepare.

The Revolutionary wars are upon us!

The mod is far from finished, in fact we have millions of miles to go, but we were able to do at least some events for the 1st and second coalitions and the egyptian expedition.

so..if you wish to help us out, go and have a look out for us on the Rise of Napoleon Redux thread in the Scenarios and modding sub-forum of the Vicky forum!!!

Chapter I : Total War - Spring Campaigns 1792

War! The Republic is crumbling under attacks by the ruthless nations of Austrians, Sardinia, Prussia and the Holy Roman Empire states. There are heroes on both sides. Evil is everywhere. In a brilliant move, the Republics most senior leader, General Kellermann, has swept into the Austrian Netherlands, with a smaller force than that of his enemies, and done well in keeping the Austrians in check. As the Revolutionary Army attempts to occupy the Austrian Netherlands, several armies move in on the region and across the borders in a desperate attempt to save the lands and crush the revolution and all it stands for.

F84_French_Revolutionary_troops_by_Raffet_jpg.jpg

Although scruffy and disorganised, the French revolutionary armies have a fanatical will of belief in the revolution and would gladly lay their lives down for the cause.

The Situation:

JourdanrushestodefendSardinianborde.jpg

The Armee du Midi, formed not long before the war became a reality, and commanded by Jean-Baptiste Jourdan. This army moves south to counter a possible Piedmontese offensive by sardinian generals Colli and Aosta.

CustineraidintoFreiburg.jpg

General Custine, always ready for a quick looting and rading moves his army of the Rhine into Austrian lands of Germany. This move is daring, but accounts for nothing.

Kellermannoffensive1792.jpg

Meanwhile, Francois Kellermann moves his army of the north into the Austrian Netherlands, in the hope he will be able to occupy and defend this land from more German troops heading that way from Prussia, Bavaria and the other states of the Holy Roman Empire.

The "Armee du Midi"
Formed not long before the wars broke out, this force of 53,610 men is more than capable of being sent to face off the badly led Sardinian armies of Colli and Aosta. Led by General Jourdan, and excellent field commander and veteran, this army will be a great asset to the Republic

The battle cry goes out, many of you will not see the end of this day, but we fight for liberty and freedom. A just cause will see us through to ultimate victory and give us eternal glory to the end of time! Come Frenchmen, onwards to victory and glory!!!

Wow looks good- never seen this period been played before....

If it's not too much to ask, I'd really appreciate a quick general shot of the map of Europe to see where the land lies before you start breaking heads...

Watching!

Chapter II : Water against the rocks - Summer Campaigns 1792

Summer 1792

As the German armies move ever closer to attack the Republic, new armies within the nation are formed. By summer 1792 the French forces already fighting have been joined with many thousands of recruits ready and willing to fight the invader!
The Army of the north under Kellermann is attacking through northern Belgium and straight through to Antwerpen, wereas the army of General Custine is moving quickly into a massive raid aginst the Austrian city of Freiburg.
But as they do this the Austro-German forces move ever closer to threaten the revolution. Even though many nations are not at war with France, it is still dangerous to leave the borders undefended, but the Republic must, it cannot spare anymore men.
This is the time where the war is at its hardest, where numbers will fight against will and determination.
The revolution must survive. All they need is time...

The Situations

Jourdanvs.jpg
Meanwhile Jourdan makes a massive offensive into Sardinian territory!

siegeofTorino.jpg

By July 1792, Jourdan has even reached Torino, and is currently besieging it! The Garrison is determined, but small and running out of supplies. And with no Austrian army or Sardinian force to its rescue, the city is doomed to be captured by Jourdans army!

CustineraiddefendagainstLux.jpg

General Custine daring, but fruitless raid into Freiburg backfires as Austrian troops and German armies move around him and attack from Saarbrucken and the Rhineland. So to counter this, Custine decides to give up the land he had taken in Germany and move on southern Belgium in an attempt to stop the German armies of the Duke of Brunswick and the Austrian armies of Archduke Karl.

The Armee des L'Interior
Formed in early summer 1792, the Armee des L'Interior was commanded by General Kleber, a brilliant, young general and a natural born leader. This force would be fundamental in defeating the royalist uprisings in the Vendee and for stopping a Spanish invasion of France in early 1793.

armeedesLInterior.jpg

The enemy:

Erzherzog Karl von Habsburg-Lothringen
Born into the Habsburg royal family, he was original destined to go into more academic persuites due to his sickly and poor health. But he overcame this by riding and joining thre troops in long, hard marches. He eventualy came to be a general when he was made a staff officer in the Austrian Netherlands during the Babrant rebellion. By 1792, he had become governor of the Austrian Netherlands and was a thorn in the side of the French armies till the end of the wars. He wasn't the greatest general, but he was said to be, at least untill the arrval of Wellington, the only general capable of beating Bonaparte. His writings and reforms of the Austrian army made the Austrian stronger and his books although not well known had a brilliant outcome as they influenced the military writers and thinkers, Jomini and Clausewitz.

just to point out that i will be stoping at around 1801, as the mod doesn't go as far yet, we have some events for before then, but afterwards some freaky s**t happens!! :D
So i'll try to keep historical, but throw in a few non-historical things!! The current version which is almost like a pre-alpha version doesn't at yet allow for ahistorical stuff!

Kaiser, I must say, good AAR so far, you make my poor talents at modding look halfway decent. :D As a side note, I have just finished the chain of events I call the Rise of Napoleon that culminates in the Coup d'Etat and the proclaiming of the Consular Republic by First Consul Napoleon Bonaparte.

Cheers, Thorgrimm
