Did a short post to kind of jump start the feast. Nobody has posted anything since my last post and apparently everyone is ready to party! Left a hook for Captain if he desires it....

I don't know if Robert, Count of Burgundy, did have an illegitimate son or not (and if he did, if it was named Maurice--Jean and his family are fictional, anyway), but as soon as I noticed that some of the counts of Burgundy were d'Auxonnes (from being Count of Auxonne) I just had to jump on that chance. :)

That thing about Charlemagne is, as far as I know, true for Count Robert at least.

I did something relatively similar with the Goucken, redwolf...but a nice addition. Did you all know that back in the Roman era they were doing CATARACT surgery? I found this out and was amazed. They used a thin bronze needle to do it. Amazing. They even managed to do something called trepanning which is boring into the skull bone to to rudimentary brain surgery. They even had bronze syringes!

LD- I'm going to be sending you a PM...about something I am sure Otto will like, and I bet Captain will as well...

I have no idea what Cataract surgery is, but in Æbelholt Monestary (mediaval monestary founded mostly on gold from Absalon) they did treplaning, they have dug up a body on the grave yard with a silver nsert wheere they removed part of his skull, the tissue around it shows he lived sevral years afterwards

cataract surgery is the removal of cataracts in the eyes (when the eyes cloud over).

I did know in fact. One chappie by the name of Heron also came up with a rudimentary steam engine, but nothing really came of it.

Heron did indeed some up with a rudimentary steam engine. He also came up with automatic doors, coin operated water dispensers, whistling birds as oracles, and a variety of other interesting things..

Edit: I did respond to the hook from redwolf, albeit briefly.

Where is everyone? It's monday and people have vanished from the face of the Earth! I know Christmas is just a few days away, but c'mon fellows!

Merry Christmas!

Here is a brief bio for Alaric and Alyssa for the time they finally reach the Free Company.

Alaric and Alyssa Al'Aeshir
Age: 17(they will have just turned 17 a couple of weeks before reaching the company)

Alaric is an accomplished horseman and has trained extensively with with a lance, a horseman's bow, and sword as his stepfather made sure he trained hard as it was his dream for his 'son' to be a knight.

Alyssa is a very accomplished swordswoman. Unbeknownst to her stepfather and mother she took lessons from a retired swordsman in the nearby town that she had talked into moving there to teach her. Since she had money this was not as difficult as one might imagine. Only disguising herself to go there and train. She can ride a horse, and can do it relatively well, but doesn't enjoy the experience.

They both relatively recently found out about Amric being their father and decided that they had to see him and speak to him. Since the man Amric used as a solicitor is dead the information slipped out. Amric does NOT know yet that his solicitor is dead. The twins are both tall, with Alaric at 5 foot 11 inches tall, and Alyssa at 5 foot 8 inches tall. Both with dark hair, he has grey eyes and she has green eyes.

Both are well muscled and physically fit individuals. They are not afraid of hard work. Alyssa has chain mail specially fitted to her, while Alaric has both chain and plate mail. Alyssa fights with a sword and dagger, which is an unconscious emulation of Amric, although Amric uses two swords. Alaric is not ambidextrous like his sister.

Alyssa's skill with her blades is not up to Amric's abilities, yet. She is still young and although her instructor was skilled, there is still much she could learn from the veterans of the Free Company. Alaric is skilled with his weapons, but has no experience fighting in warfare. Bandits, yes, true warfare no. Neither does Alyssa have experience, other than fighting bandits.

There is a lot that can be done with these two, and feel free to have the need to instruct them on various things. They are still relatively sheltered, even though they have weapons skills. Amric will not be too pleased with the idea of the twins joining the company, which is their intention. He will try to fight the idea, although not in a physical manner.

He will feel protective of his only children. As they will be the only children he will ever have. As for the why, that will be explained as time goes along.

My latest post is NOT an official time jump. I just moved along the time for Alaric and Alyssa so that when LD or one of the other PTB move the timeline forward they would be closer to the goal of meeting the FC....So don't go taking my time stamp as official, please.

Oh, didn't notice your time jump. I guess Jean just gets really delayed in getting to Ancona. ;)

Oh, and Jean's absence will, most likely, be quite temporary. Although transit times (especially to France if that goes through!) will bite into that a bit.

JM, I like the heir to Burgundy tie in.

Amric, is there anything the sarge can't do? ;) Nice meal. Kudos to everyone for getting in the spirit.

Storey, your Murad post was great. In retrospect I should have spent more time on mine for the historical aspect. AFAIK, the territories you mentioned are all owned by the Ottomans.

LD, there is plenty the sarge can't do. He can't pilot a ship, couldn't reef a sail until shown how, engineer cathedrals, etc. In passing I mentioned the long cold winters far north. It is suggested that to pass the time men would experiment doing different things to combat boredom...Plus, food and cooking is a hobby of mine in real life. I tried to keep it to ingredients and methods that could be used for that period of time...therefore no cinnamon which comes from the bark of trees in Sri Lanka/Ceylon or the island of Taiwan...which for our period of time we aren't going to be getting. Let alone saffron.

Here is an interesting note, modern food companies use something from seaweed as a stabilizer for things like jelly, jams, and ice cream, to name a few things...

Edit: Post up, nothing much, but keeps things moving somewhat...

Thanks LD. It was fun digging up the info on the Internet. Xmas and the New Year are very busy for me so it might be after the 1st before I can post again.
