To address a few points. Rebel was banned for several reasons beyond anything to do with the AAR forum. But, the affected always have an excuse or two. Mods abusing power? How many times have I ever come down hard on someone? I can count on a couple of fingers of one hand... over two years that's pretty damned lenient.
One of the Primary rules of writing collaborative fiction, whether it be the FC or what have you, is to remain within the spirit of the experience. That rule is in my very first post in this thread. I admit I'm too lax, or too nice a guy, at times to put my foot down. I'd rather try to steer away from problem areas by using the story itself. Some people get it, some don't.
Mach, I know you are new to this, so sometimes it's hard to know where to fit in and when. Listen to the veterans when they offer advice. They were all rookies like you at one time. In fact, Vald's character was one of the toughest to work in, and he knows it. And yet, look at the quality of material he produces. The_Hawk was another. His original character was meant to be part-time, and suited for one specific role, and yet now he's helping me run this. Amric was an exception. He came on board late, but posted his way right into the middle of key plot lines, in a non-disruptive manner (beyond his penchant for weird ideas
). I could cite many more examples. Part of the process of collaborative writing is to make something out of nothing. In other words, if things are slow, interact with some other characters, tell some of your background, some of your likes and dislikes. Personally I thought that HG I's character had lots of potential. Why? Because he's basically a reporter. What should he be doing? Going from campfire to campfire and asking people about themselves. What a great way to expand and express your character.
Granted, the FC has morphed into a collection of nationalities that I never envisioned at the beginning, but part of the fun was making the mix beleivable. Mercenary companies usually forgot about religion so long as they got paid. And not all mercenary companies from the era were corrupt brigands. Hawkwood's White Company was known for their honour and loyalty to their employer. There's a statue of him in Florence, IIRC.
So, if we want this to continue, Judge's last post is a perfect break point. The timeline can advance a week. However, I want to get back to telling the story of the FC, with no more distractions.
And Judge, you would never be banned for expressing an opinion on your material. So don't even go there...
