As to this war council, is just for the big three mercenary leaders? Or would the FC officers be there as well? (i.e. Shur'tu)

I believe he said all FC officers are present at the meeting.

From LT. upward. It would probably be held in Visconti's pavilion.

Thanks for moving the post, CA.

I'm back as well! :)

The trip to Russia was awesome, but I got rather sick after I returned (hence this late post).

I'll read up tomorrow :).

B,

I was aware you'd bumped the timeline. The main point of the conversation is to say Clayborne will represent Sean's "loaners" at the Council, and to discuss his intentions, which shouldn't change with the Council. But it's a one-off conversation, so I don't think it ran into anything during the time you skipped.

Besides, it gave me a chance to drop a 'Godfather' line. How could I pass it up?

:D

LD,

If a Book VI is to happen (after your well-deserved break), I'd like to make a firm commitment as well. There are several reasons for this, several reasons which will help me not only to stick around, but to post a lot as well. First of all, I think that during this book, in my Bertilucci posts in Florence and Rome to be precise, I found a voice (or style) I liked. Secondly, I will dispose of Fyrsil mainly because of the characters static-ness and familiarity in my mind.

I wasn't sure when you'd return, and I wanted to give your man something to do, hence the subplot. It may be something to coordinate with T_H and myself.

Shawn, I just thought that the reference to the council and the use of the 9th appeared out of place, since the scouts didn't arrive with the news of the invading army until the 10th.

Phalanx, Mexico, eh? Lucky you.

B,

But Sean would have to know one 'would' be coming, that wouldn't take a genius to figure out. And even if the scouts hadn't reported yet, their advance wasn't exactly a big surprise. I don't think I gave any details that really depended on knowing something specific.

Your call, I'll bump the date if you want me to. No biggie.

Actually, it felt that way :D. There were still hammers and sickles all over the places, along with statues of Lenin and other 'Great Revolutionaries'.

Let me put it this way: The Karl Marx street crosses the Komsomol street only to end in the Soviet lane.

T_H: What is your e-mail address?

Actually RJ, I don't mind if Lochlan and others decide to prod Johan or Frederik a bit, I had hoped that the story would have allowed for a slow revelation of their relationship, but now I have to speed it up a bit :)

V

EDIT, Oh and thanks for setting me straight, your right the true Council is IRC in Visconti's pavillion, not Captain's tent.

TheF,

It's incrhawk@bellsouth.net. Now you've got me curious as to what I should expect. ;)

RJ,

Nice segue from Captain's tent to Visconti's pavilion.

On another note entirely, I just discovered last night that one of my friends was hoarding the first five books of the Black Company saga, and so demanded the first at toy-gunpoint. Given all the other reading I'm supposed to be doing, we'll see how that goes, but I'm rather enjoying it so far.

Anyway, hopefully I'll have something up from Visconti soon.

I mention it only because there was a discussion a while back about books, and it came to light that the Free Company was inspired by the Black Company works. I'm not sure if I see it, yet, but then I've just started.

Oh it's there...the interaction between the characters is very reminescent of the Black Company.

Thanks for noticing that. I think it's a testimony to the writers involved that they could create characters that interact on that kind of level.

The Black Company series is my all time favourite fantasy collection. T_H, when you are introduced to Raven, try not to think about Lochlan too much. ;) Amric nailed it, though, the interaction between all of the Black Company characters is one of the things that make the books so good.

And to set one thing straight, Captain is not based on the Captain in the books. He was based on the Michael Caine character in a great little film about the 30 Years War called The Last Valley. However, Constance is based on a certain Lady. Lady is the first literary character that I've ever fallen in love with. :)

I still think you should pick up Guy Gavriel Kay's alternative history books LD, esp. "Lions of All Rhasan".

If you didn't nick Captain there, then surely Kay nicked your character here ;)

(Where else do you get a mercenary band of diverse origin with a leader that is the paramount warrior of his era, going only by the name of "Captain"?)
