Okay, that monster may be my last book post for a long while. Sorry I couldn't leave any FC character hooks (except Captain's). Anyway, it'll give something for the Cat and Loguidice to chew on. The one thing that bothers me is if I got the timing down. LD posted that the Cat was 2 hours away, but Landen had to get from northwest of the Asola to Foppy's/Robert's group southeast of the town, crossing the road from the east the Cat is using, all while not being seen.
I'll still be in town another week. I just don't know when, if ever, I'll be able to poke my head in. Consider my characters up for grabs. The state of things:
1) Kampfgruppe Landen has met up with Foppy, and (for most part) all the scouts are together. A couple Mongol signallers and Pierce's volunteers are floating around, but you can assume they rejoined the scouts okay that night. They are currently holed up some place out of sight from Asola, but within range to carry out missions.
2) Loguidice should be really annoyed right now. 1 patrol, 1 search party, and 1 foraging party have disappeared due to forces unknown. Giardino's patrol in force completely failed to catch them, though (as Giardino will plead) he interrupted their signal and forced them to flee. Inference: the enemy is small and only engages when it is in their interest.
Also, while the watches were distracted by the fake dust cloud to the north, the scouts launched fire arrows into their camp. I would imagine that any supply depot would be kept in a warehouse inside the town and hense safe. The only damage caused by this fire would be disrupting the operations of Loguidice's force.
3) The Cat should have been able to see: a) the first Mongol smoke signal (first signal was in the morning, warning Captain of the Cat's arrival; the second was in the early afternoon, far from prying eyes of the Venetians, was the estimate of Loguidice's strength), b) the dust cloud to the north (Possibly thinking the Milanese alliance would come from that direction? Brescia is in that general direction with a road from Milan via Bergamo.), and c) the fire of the Asola camp. He may also be confused about what is going on.
4) Captain knows that a large Venetian force controls Asola, but I purposely had the scouts underestimate Loguidice's strength. He also knows the Cat is near, much closer to Asola then he is. Since the scouts have maintained their operational effectiveness, they can still act as his eyes and ears.
Good luck, gentlemen. I promise I will be back.
