Updated casualty list of characters for this battle:

Captain - wounded, seriously
Lochlan - not wounded in battle, but beforehand
Jaeger - wounded, moderately
Yusuf - wounded, seriously
Alv - wounded, dying
Maria - wounded, moderately
Landen - wounded, moderately
Fritz - run over, frequently ;)
Roos - Dead
Bernard - Dead
The Cyprian - Dead (technically MIA)
Tomas - Dead
Timon - Dead
Maurice - Dead
Trenan - Dead
Owyn (TheF's welsh archer Lt., not sure about the spelling) - MIA, presumed dead

Also:
The Swiss - wiped out to a man
German pikes - shattered
The Mongols - over 50% dead
Greek reserves - wiped out to a man

I can't give accurate statements on the other units, but this looks like we took one hell of a beating.

I reiterate -- the Cyprian is MIA, strongly presumed dead. It's more dramatic that way, you see. ;)

Damn, Craig, those are some heavy casualties. Not that they are unexpected, but when you write out the wounded and dead, it looks really ugly.

If I might venture a suggestion to someone: considering how sobering it was for me to read the OOC post on casualties, perhaps an in-story post (later) regarding the losses would be appropriate to the mood.

BTW, Craig, your Russian is the eternal optimist. Even after Roos cuts the rope, he still manages to find something to make himself happy in that failure. Though I suspect that the clapping will sober him up just a tad. ;)

Good idea.

I can see Lochlan shuffling into a cabin as Captain is recuperating and giving him the list of dead and wounded (after which he'll probably volunteer to go and jump over the rail and save Captain the bother of drowning him).

Yes indeed...great writing Craig! Careful though, that's one seriously pissed off Pasha you're facing. :)

MrT: You continue to post magnificently. I have to say amazing writing on your part.

SM: Good idea about a casualty list in story. I like it. And as for the Russian, a meglomaniac who views himself as the Almighty doesn't have room to see his failures, it would fracture his entire delusion, which Ishak is trying to do right now.

RJ: Landen was wounded, I'll add it to the list.

Maybe it would be better to deliver the news while he's asleep? :p

I think 'shellshocked' might be more accurate for Fritz than 'wounded'. He may have to retire after this. ;)

BTW, don't worry about the casualties list... there's... something in the works in that regard. ;)

How's that? :D

Well...I'm breathlessly waiting to read Craig's Bey response to Ishak.

Hey...has anyone else noticed that if you accidentally spell "Bey" with a typo you get...

Really? The chain was just cut, so the fleet is only now starting to move. I would think you would float right by the Bey and Pasha. The only question is could you see them through the darkness? I thought Jaeger in particular might be interested in seeing the conclusion of this.

The only thing I can think of is if the combatants are silouetted against some torches or lamps (the lamp Hasan was carrying?) through a window or some such. But you'd have to have pretty good eyesight, and goodness knows how big the windows are. They are most likely arrowslits and impossible to peer through from this distance.

Now, if you get them outside, with the moon or a thunderstorm to light it up...

I should think the Acropolis is far enough above the waterline that you can't see what's going on up there from down below. Plus, the FC folks are presumably worried about the Turkish fleet (such as it is) rather than about the hellish city they've just escaped.

Besides, I'd rather Jaeger sweat, not knowing if the Bey's going to come knocking at his bedchamber some night... ;)

EDIT: LD, sent you some mail. You might take a look if you get the chance.
