I've noticed. Here's the plan, then.
We'll give RJ and HG today to post their respective pieces. Otherwise, I'll write it in.
After that we'll get on with the 'climax'. If everyone want's to contribute a 'closing off' piece while shipboard, then great (ie, Maria gives Frederik a passionate kiss and a dose. ;) )

I have an end piece that I will write, and then there will be an Epilogue to be supplied by someone else.

After that, c'est finit. :)

LD,

I had a "pushing-off" piece I wanted to write after RJ got his two bits in and the gate gets closed.

Are we just going to fast-forward through the battle at the Acropolis, the fight through the Bosporus, and the rescue of the Greeks from the south docks?

I just flew back from SanFran, and boy are my arms tired.

MrT: Makduf. :D

CA's depiction of the Bey: I also thought this was very well done. The blood and pain kept feeding the monster until he's now out of control. Poor Hasan... The stark juxtaposition of Ishak and Kruschovic is also very neat.

LD: I would like to write one post about the bodies of the reserve tagma and Timon's family. This will approximately take place the night after this battle.

Sounds like a plan, LD. There will be no more posts coming from Foscari (in this book, at least). I considered a sort of epilogue to the whole Venice thing, but considering how well received his last words were, I think it would be best to leave it at that.

We can find out in the next Book what exactly those changes he spoke of are... :D

If I read your schedule right, it appears I will miss the Epilogue and last bits of the finale, as I will be out of town from Thursday to Tuesday. <sigh> Oh well, leaves me something to read when I get back.

Re: remaining posts: I would like to put in one more Moor post (try saying that 10 times fast!) to detail what happened to them in the retreat.

:D
LD, How many Moors were left before the retreat?

I'm done with mine LD, and sorry guys, neant to have it done yesterday but I had to think about it a great deal. The closing of the gate struck meas such a symbolic thing that it had to be done well.

Re Niklos:

Osman - he, of course, was in part responsible for setting it up

That's because it is Sforza, check your email ;)

Well Osman may not get a prize, but I wonder if not the information could be obtained from him anyway, if anybody thinks of the right queations to ask.

I'm at a standstill to (or more like finished) but are we to take oyur post LD to mean that once you post your piece it is all over, or are we to have a seabattle for us to participate in? (I assume that most of the company are on separat vessels due to their differing bording times)

Also I at least would like a reflective post once we are clear (assuming we get clear) I have a few ideas rumbling in my head, I'll PM you if you wish.

I think Landen has a boarding post, and that's about all for him. The hulk his guard torched will burn for most of the night, but I suspect the Greeks will add to that in volumes as they move.

Out of curiosity, do we have any specifics on the ships?

All,

There's still writing to be had while the climax works itself out. I was simply stating that we couldn't move ahead until the gate was closed. Now that that's done, we can carry on. As far as the ending is concered, I was merely passing on the final order of posting. I'll make sure I give fair warning.

Will there be a sea battle? I wasn't planning on a full pledged battle. Moors? I'd say a couple hundred are left alive.

The Company and Greek fleet consist of oared galleys and cog-like transports. In comparison, the Ottoman fleet is composed of smaller, skiff-like ships. They were far more numerous, but not nearly as powerful as the Western ships. In fact, there's an incident where four such ships held off the Ottoman fleet while making its way into the harbour. Mehmed was so enraged he banished the admiral.

RJ, excellent job. Thanks. :)

LD, no need for a naval battle I just recently wrote a galley battle including Ottomans for Director in his excellent HistoryPark and now I've got all this useless information and tactical ideas that I need to vent :D :D

Oh well, be prepared to see it appear in my own AAR instead :)

I look forward to reading it. I feel a naval battle will take away from the climax of the tale. That's why I'd rather wrap it up in my own way. Who's to say there won't be any ship-to-ship action in Book V? ;)

In the event you were hoping for names: the only ship of the Free Company-allied fleet is Maria's own, which would be Athene. The rest of those in port are the ships of the Greek fleet, which are going to be ordered out mostly empty (they'll be filled with Dimitris' men on the way out, of course). Athene will be the last to leave... as soon as I post, I expect. ;)

LD,

I sure hope there's going to be naval combat in Book V, or Maria's not going to have a lot to do.

BTW, I need to drop you a line one of these days to make sure my plans for her mesh with the overarching plan for the Book.

And that's the last of Hasan. I hope he came over properly. There are some soldier who die worthy deaths by giving the ultimate sacrifice for their lord, their country, or some worthy cause. Hasan was not one of these, and he died accordingly.

Really good post, fusag. You sure know how to kill off your characters. :)

I've placed a fairly generic post that shouldn't hamper anybody elses plans to board the fleet.

T_H, Maria will definitely have stuff to do in the next Book, as I've already alluded. Stay tuned...

Practice makes perfect. :D Hopefully, next book I'll have a character who last more than a couple pages.
