Thank goodness there was no perm. damage. FC destroyed by drive damage would be the ultimate CTD on this site!

Glad to hear that the damage was not fatal, LD.
No kidding.

Post's up. I tried to incorporate as many people as possible, even though I had to remove my mention of Tomas when I remebered he was at the Outer Wall. Something tells me this may be a quiet weekend, so take your time and let it develop. :)

I assume Tomas is really Thomas. Tomas is in the royal family and probably will not be seen exposed on the Outer Wall!

:D

I will work on a post tonight to account for the Thomas and his men.

IMPORTANT REMINDER

Just a reminder (plea) to everyone for the upcoming extended battle...please be sure to include a header with each of your posts that clearly indicates your location. By this I mean something a little more specific than "Constantinople" since there will be action occuring in quite a few different parts of the city. This will make it much easier for everyone to know who's around to interact with (and who isn't) so we can keep a fairly clear picture in all of our heads as to what's going on.

Perhaps it's worth throwing another copy of that map up too, LD?

LD, what happened to Sforza's reinforcements? Are they part of kent's force? and if yes shouldn't that number be 1000? the original 500 and then Sforza's lt. and 500 men?

great writing all, let the fun begin :) and welcome to LLE and JM.

Won't the Turks be surprised when they storm the walls, only to discover Jonasz and 500 sailors holding a forum in the middle of the City? ;) *ducks*

No, but seriously, I assume the 2000 down at the south end is Dimitris and the Greeks?

You'll probably hate me for bringing this up now, LD, but I was just taking a look at that same map from an earlier combat, and noticed the Muslims (Shur'tu and his men, as well as Yusuf and Ali) are missing. Are they presumed to have been distributed along the lines under Lochlan, Jaeger, Roos and LeClerc? (I'm guessing yes, or else the Company would've picked up several hundred infantry from some indeterminate location.) Just trying to clarify.

True -- I was more concerned with Yusuf and Abdul Ali, as between them they have some 550 men or so. (Perhaps fewer, as I seem to recall one group of them taking some serious hits last attack... or maybe that was earlier. Boy, this tale has been going on for a while. ;))

My apologies for the very long instalment I just posted and for the necessary backtracking there. I also hope that it doesn’t stink too much of DEM since it’s really something that I would have liked to set up over a series of posts. Unfortunately time and other circumstances simply haven’t allowed it. Anyway, I needed to quickly tie up some loose ends in Venice and with SM gone for the weekend I undertook to do it myself.

HG/SM: This seems to be the best “fit” for the current scenario and I apologise also for the unannounced changes. Oh well...

HG: I simply couldn’t come up with a plausible way to work Syban or Florence’s direct involvement into the final framework and timing we required. There's no way a messenger could have traveled fast enough to get to Florence or for an army or supplies to have made the return journey. I meant to include (somewhere in that post) that Sforza had at least sent a fast messenger to Florence on the 13th to tell Syban what he's doing, but I couldn't get it to fit in smoothly without making the post considerably longer...and I think that would be excessive (even for me). I think it's pretty safe to say that one was sent, though, and should arrive sometime on the 15th. I'll go back and re-read it to see if I can shoehorn it in there somehow...

SM: I think most of what we've discussed via e-mail should still work alright. I'll send you an e-mail later on this evening - or tomorrow at the latest - that explains what I have in mind.

Both: Sorry about that, and I’ll make it up to you, somehow, in Book V. :)

If I have read LD's last post correctly, then at least the Mongols are accounted for, being dispersed as archers along the wall. I assume the crossbow men of the Moors have been used in si,ilar fashion?

V
Yes. The Moors and the Mongols are spread along the walls. The Bedouins suffered heavy casualties during the night raid and departed the city to lick their wounds :)

The Mongols would probably number around 60-70, and the Moors somewhere around 400. I was running out of space on the map, so assume they are indeed on the walls.

Also, for those who should know, the all important Gate is right at the crux of the Walls and the Blachernae. On the map that would be just to the right of Roos's regiment. It is called the Gate of Xylokerkon.

Finally. I have put up the first four sections of The Free Company: Book One on the FC Home Page. The work in progress is courtesy of The_Hawk.

When I get the time I'll tinker with the presentation of the overall look. For now, it functions, and that makes me happy :)

Can someone test the links for me, please?

Thanks, V. I wanted to make sure I didn't bugger up T-H's hard work.

Hmm. Skull and a rose. That's not a bad idea...
