Yeah, I like that. :)

EDIT: I just noticed a dating problem, gentlemen. It should be easily corrected.

My 'Organisational post' starts on the 24th but jumps to the 26th about half way down. The_Hawk got his posts correct, however, the majority of you have used the 24th instead of the 26th. Could I ask everyone to edit the date?

Thanks,

is it that large of a problem? Most of the posts on the 24th are thrown off by doing it (they're just everyone getting together and chatting it up, although I'm sure we could edit those if necesary).

Another thing guys, befor we get way to confused, I don't believe Alv is a Lieutenant.

Reynaud, Jacques, and Lochlan are commanding the various parts Left, Center, and Right as it stands now I think.

Alv is Lochlans second in command and master sergeant. Unless I missed a beat or two, which is altogether possible. :D.

Well, I'll leave it up to individual discretion, however, if the post has anything to do with training and your place in the command structure (based on my organisational post), then it has to be on the 26th, otherwise you will be anticipating history :)

And yes, Alv is still a Sergeant reporting to LT Lochlan.

Once again: All of the 'grunts' report to SGT. Alv, who reports to LT. Lochlan.

Roos and Jacques have NPC type commands by virtue of the fact that driftwood and MrT have other characters to look after.

Eh? What? The 26th? Why is it everytime I read this thread, someone points out a mistake? :D

Rictus ... good god ... I think he should get a FC OOC Special Merit award, made out of Gen-U-Ine Wlak-hide (tm).

Oh sure! Give everyone else heck. You can't even spell Renaud <---notice the lack of a "y" in there? :D

New post of an internal FC nature now up to exact my revenge on you nasty types who are making short work of my carefully crafted and highly sensitive character...and his very cute cap. ;) :D

FYI, you dragged me away from writing a kick-ass John VIII post to exact my revenge. Shame on you all! I should still be able to torment you with further verbosity tonight, but my intended 300-page Ottoman Janissary post will simply have to be put off until tomorrow. :p

Tremble, mortals, for soon...all too soon...you will feel the ground shake as my fanatical hordes are unleashed upon your sorry and pathetic excuse for a Company. Tell me...do you prefer death, or would you simply like enter into servitude for the rest of your lives? Oh....did I mention that castration is part of the punishment for surrendering anything other than your lives? :D

Umm....I type fast? :D

Did I mention the two six page and highly frustrating RRR instalment re-writes that have been consigned to the trash bin (along with the original attempt) because they all suck? No? Well, let's not go there... Honestly, sometimes I sould just shoot myself. :(

Thank God I can always fall back on excessive verbosity in a thinly disguised attempt to baffle you with B.S. :D Lord forbid that I actually write content.

Well, unless you consider 1 am 'later this afternoon' my post is later than I expected :D But since it doesn't tie in with anyone else's directly, I suppose it works.

Basically, what I'm working off is a brief mention in a Byzantine History class that one of the Emperors (I believe Basil the Bulgar-slayer, though I may be mistaken) wanted soldiers who died fighting muslims to be considered martyrs, but the Patriarch refused to go along with the idea, insisting that even the most just war was inheritly sinful on the simple basis that it violated the 'thou sahlt not kill' commandment a couple of thousand-odd times. Those familiar with Orthodox theology may feel free to correct me if this is no longer the mainstream view or if they have a newer theology on War. But even if this is an unorthodox orthodox theology  its reasonable to assume that at a lone theologian would advocate it and that his views would influence a favored pupil.

Just so you all know, Huran Shur'tu: Shur'tu is what we westerns call the first name. Huran is the family name. Same goes for Dian Wu'tu and Zhang Gao.

Feel free to mix them up, since most westerns were unaware of this. It will both irratate HS and amuse me. :D

MrT, let me compliment you on the meeting between the Doge and the Emperor. The tension was almost graspable, and I think you did a more than superb job of the diplo-babble and what was behind it. :)

MrT: I also have to say that I really, really liked your Venice-post :D :D.

I'll post something later today I suppose, but first I have to finish up on some RL stuff.

Jesus!

I post a little piece about Constance and 'The Hat', then sign off to watch 'Das Boot' on the History Channel, thinking I can scan the posts in the morning over a cup of coffee.

Well, TWO cups of coffee later... where the hell did they all come from? MrT, you have insomnia or something? :)

My hats are off to all of you. This has quickly shaped itself into a compelling story, and we haven't even left the darn city :)

I may have to break this into a second book after all. And that's a testimony to the excellent material.

Deaghaidh. I found your post especially compelling. The arguments were very well presented. And I echo the comments on MrT's Venetian post. I think it rivals the famous Austrian post in the Genoa thread for brilliance.

I am currently working on some graphics to act as a visual aid for the tactics that everyone has taken such a keen interest in discussing. I'll incorporate them into a post sometime later today.

After that, perhaps Monday, or Tuesday at the latest, I'll advance the date by about ten days and move the action to Livorno, then close the Chapter. The following chapter will start with a couple of predetermined posts, much like the Book opening.

So I ask that everyone be prepared to wrap up whatever business they have in Florence. It may be a while before we see it again. ;)

Thanks for the kind words re the "Venice post".

I've been playing around with the various elements of it in my mind for a couple days and, yesterday morning when I hit a mental block in a post that I'm trying to write for RRR, I decided to take a break from bashing my head against a wall and decided to write the Venice thing to change gears for a minute.

As I was writing, the rest of you had some fun w/ Renaud so I took a break from it to respond to have my revenge. Then I went back to Venice and suddenly had the "veiled conversation" idea so I re-wrote the earlier section to set up the end...and then tried to figure out how to speak in tongues. :D

All in all it was really fun, and I ended up thinking that both posts were pretty good. Venice, for a single piece, is better of course and - as LD said - probably borders on my Austria posts in the Genoa thread as to the way it turned out. Sometimes the spirit moves me and I come up with one of those cool hooks that makes the words just pour out...

The only downer in the whole day was the ongoing inability to resolve my RRR instalment. *sigh*

With any luck I'll have a "Janissary post" for your consumption later today, although it will likely not be on the same level as Venice because I haven't done enough research into it yet and I've got a meeting to go to for most of the afternoon. That said, I'll see what I can do...depending, of course, on what other sort of trouble you all get Renaud into. :D
