De Gaulle's staff back in Paris after the battle of Okhotsk, parading on the Champs-Elysées, January 1945. Even if de Gaulle's supremacy over the French political scene, his bad-tempered nature and his democrat vague desires caused him stormy relations with Maurras, who prefered a faithful marshal as designated heir: Henri Giraud...
INTERLUDE: THE TRIPOLAR WORLD
The fall of Soviet Union, and with her the end of marxist experiment in Europe bring the victory of the fascist system, born in Italy in 1922 under Mussolini's leadership, and now, in 1945, raised by three distinct alliances, the ideals of nationalism and corporatism were spreading on the five continents. The old democratic system was only raised by Spain, Scandinavia and some South American countries without any interest: the Allies, still led by the leninist Britain, were now the shadow of their former power.
The world in 1945
West Atlantic Treaty Organization:
With the former authorities of United States of America now limited to the Pacific islands, the Confederate States of North America (as they are now called since the "integration" of Canada)were upset by the French claims over Quebec: secretly backing the Red Army and the independantist revolt in French Caribbean islands, the CSNA announced, after the conference of Richmond in January 1945, the creation of a great American alliance under their aegis, uniting the "Autocratic systems of the New World, ready to stand against any imperialist demand encroaching on Monroe Doctrine". The firepower represented by the alliance of CSNA, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Salvador, Nicaragua, Panama, Guyana, Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina is still undescriptible.
Eurasiatic Monarchist Entente:
Even if kingdom of France is shattered by the relative incompetence of king Henri VI, the old age of President of Council Charles Maurras and the power struggles between Marshals de Gaulle and Giraud, the prestige of France and his allies had never been so strong. The old dreams of French hegemony over Europe are now real (with the concept of "Forteresse Europe", also called "Festung Europa" by German experts): the dreams for victorious monarchism will be done in 1954, under the terms of Cherbourg Proclamation.
French allies received wonderful gifts: if the old fascist Italy received only Sudan, the Empire of Central Europe (successor of Austria-Hungary) received whole Ukraine, northwestern Caucasus and domination over the buffer states of Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia; Poland, after years of Russian domination, is now renewing the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, receiving Lithuania, White Russia and parts of western Russia. Iran received all Turkestan in compensation for the terrible invasion of their lands during the war. Finland, Mongolia, Estonia and Latvia were restablished in their 1936 borders, but a puppet republic of Kazakhstan was created in Central Asia and a new Russian government was put in place, uniting the Tsarist pretender, Vladimir Kyrillovich Romanov, Russian émigrés in Paris and other officers disappointed by the Soviet dream, such as general Andrei Vlassov.
Greater Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere:
The war between Empire of Japan and the so-called Alliance (Britain, New Zealand, Venezuela, United States of Pacific), better known as the Pacific War, finally ended in April, 3 1945 with the Iwo Jima Treaty. Admiral Suzuki Kantaro, holding the place of Prime Minister after new power struggles within the Japanese military, proposed an unconditional retreat of their Asian colonial possessions to the concerned powers, who had everything to lose in a continuing war against Japan: they reluctantly agreed, signing the peace treaty at the Japanese battleship Yamato.
President of United States of Pacific, General of the Armies Douglas MacArthur, signing the Iwo Jima treaty by the name of his country, on the Japanese battleship Yamato, April, 3 1945
The Greater Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere was now put in place, officially a coalition of the free Asian peoples under the aegis of the industrialized and powerful Japan: in fact, it was a Japanese colonial empire, militarist and using the independantist leaders as stooges to help the resource necessities of Empire of Rising Sun. The best proof was the cases of China and India, kept under occupation due to the civilian unrest and the refusal of any collaboration by their national leaders, from Chiang Jieshi to the Mahatma Gandhi. The French presence in Indochina and New Guinea, along with their domination over Asian republics of Kazakhstan and Mongolia, put with the walk-on part of Japan in the last hours of Franco-Soviet War, put the two empires in a state of unofficial war, a "Cold War" as the diplomats said.
