I think it works... i have a 600 adsl connection and probably can be a good host. I hosted a few sessions of Unleashed and it worked very good even with seven or so european players (it didnt work in sundays afternoons because of internet traffic, but in others hours/days it went just fine).
I sugest that we try the Napoleonic scenario, wich is good for a one shot game and can put as direct in action. And its very fun in MP.
About the setup of the game, I can have France, as Iam used to wage war against three opponents in Unleashed, wich I played as France. It worked well during most of the game, till the napoleonic age, hehe, because I didnt know much about the game warfare of high technology (I fielded only 600k napoleonic army against 1200k austrian, 300k italians and 600k spanish).
The only rule that I wold suggest is that its not permited to use a small army for going sacking around (in the time I played a Nappy scenario, the english player would put many 5000 armies burning down french soil and making left half my armie do fight inconclusive battles against him). Not real and not funny to chase around 5000 cavalary armies only to see it go burning in another province :rofl:
