Fixed:That should prevent the OE from relocating their capital via decision if it is already a core--and if it's already a core, there's no reason to have that decision anyway.

Actually that's gonna mess it up, since they get a core via mission, but they need the event to change the culture and religion to sunni/turkish.

AI Ottoman Empire, 1530, on HttT with latest beta patch. They are not "Failoman" for me. They've conquered they're own little Polish/Danzig Corridor splitting Catholic and Orthodox Christendom. Also vassalized Wallachia, allied and PUed Crimea (hope to God they never inherit). 3 years after this screenie they also conquered a corridor down the Levant through Jerusalem to Gaza. Although they're having trouble getting rid of Byzantium on Naxos for some reason.

Yeah, the Ottomans looked exactly like that in my last game, right before they got gang-raped by Lithuania, Bohemia, Austria, Hungary, Poland, Prussia...

In my experience, in httt the OE is far more succesfull when you select a starting date somewhat later than 1399.
In my game, they owned egypt, part of arabia, the entire holy land (whats that called again?) georgia, and conquered all the way deep into russia. They kicked the crap out of the austrians (wich where huge themselves, lithuania, poland.

Only after i (Spain) declared war on them, while they were occupied with a war against Austria, Poland, Russia, and some smaller states, did they crumble. A key point in their expansion might be when they find a way around the black sea by conquering moldavia and the lands east of the black sea. blockading them no longer prevents them from moving troops around.

Yeah honestly most of the complaints I see about weird expansion or countries not doing as well as they did historically can be solved by just starting later (1453-92).

I think I'm one of the very few people that likes a 1500-1600 start date in most of my games.

Late start games are pretty fun. I had a blast with my 1688 Prussia game, other than the saves dying. :(

Im my current whole world mod game the OE is doing quite well. They've doubled if not tripled in size since game start. The thing that worries me is that they are expanding too rapidly. They dont seem to care about reputation and they seldom wait until there WE is down and their empire is under control before starting another war. They already have a reputation of 40 and seem to be nearing the breaking point. Not gonna happen on my watch though. Ive been sending them money for a few years now and as soon as im able im gonna take a stack into their lands and fight their rebels for them. When they get big and bloated that's when ill strike.

Imho part of the problem is that the AI will prioritize religious enemies over members of it's religious group. The ottomans will leave the Mamluks alone most of the time and just expand in the Balkans and into Russia. They're thus too weak when they need to face Austria later on.

The game in my previous screenie continues, yes they lost the Danzig Corridor to Bohemia and its allies, inevitable really, but my point was that in my current game the Ottomans are rich and powerful enough to conquer that in the first place. They continue to bash the Mamluks, Hungary and an Asian country (I think Qara Koyunlu) and Crimea is now in line to be inherited by them. And I am on a 1453 start.

I agree with the others who mentioned later starts. I've only started with 1453 and 1399 (and 1776 once just to try the USA) but I tend to find that more historically plausible/pleasing results come with the 1453 start than the 1399, especially for the Ottomans.

I'm more displeased with Burgundy than the Ottomans, as they are too powerful - they shouldn't be a member of HRE in my opinion, or at least not start as a member and make it harder for them to join.
