Freedom, 1419-1421
When this story begins, The Soon To Be Great Empire Of Dai Viet is under Chinese occupation and has been so since 1407. One man, Le Loi is sick and tired of the Chinese and has assembled an army large enough to teach them a lesson they will never forget! To arms, it´s time to fight back!
EAST: The Soon To Be Great Empire Of Dai Viet.
NORTH: The Gigantic Chinese Empire
WEST: Four Small Burmanese Kingdoms Who Battle Each Other For Total Control Of Burma.
CENTER: Various Petty Kingdoms (Except Ayutthaya, they scare me)
SOUTH: Malay Sultanates.
The first step in the war was to crush the small Chinese occupation army in Hanoi. Le Loi, had an army of 10 000 cavalry and 25 000 infantry, all in all 35 000 men! The small occupation army consisted mostly of infantry and numbered 10 000. Le Loi was convinced that it would be an easy victory and massed the entire army in one big square, while the Chinese divided their army in three smaller squares.
The armies prepares for battle!
But however, something went wrong. The Vietnamese were so many, that not even Le Loi could handle them. The peasants located at the front of the giant square, charged against the Chinese, but then suddenly turned and instead charged against their own brothers! They did this because a regiment of Spearmans had accidently assaulted Hanoi, believing that the Chinsese were hiding in there. The peasants thought they were Chinese who assualted the city. On top of this, the cavalry were poorly prepared and headed for the woods, completely unaware that the enemy was right in front of them. The Chinese saw the oppurtunity and attacked. Only Le Loi´s personal guard remained of the great army. Obviously, he retreated only to see the peasants cut down the Spearmans. About 10 000 Vietnamese died in the battle, compared to less than a 100 Chinese.
Ohh, the shame...
However, Le Loi isn´t the one who gives up, he wanted freedom and the was would continue until that´s what he had. He reorganized the army and headed for the undefended Chinese capital Anhui. He sent a bunch of peasants north to raid the Chinsese border. Unfortunately, the Chinese Grand Army got there first, and the peasant army was completely destroyed. Wasted... The Chinese will pay for this!
And they did, in May the completely undefended Chinese captial was taken by Le Loi´s advancing army. By now, three Chinese armies wandered about in their own lands trying to get a hang of what was going on. In July, the Chinese gave up their search and payed the Vietnamese 100D. Dai Viet was free and Le Loi returned to Hanoi.
The following years Le Loi reformed the country and in 1421 the Chinese accepted a totally independent Vietnamese country. More reforms were made and soon the Supreme Empire Of Dai Viet was recognized by all nations in the area. Le Loi was crowned the first empereror of Dai Viet, and this story begins for real...
