The entire Colonial Carribbean ist granted to Spain.

I'm playing as Hungary. I would like to establish a colony in Guadelupe, but if I do I'll get a penalty. Please look at the screenshot. I remember there was an event regarding the Pope and the land distribution in America. I remember this decision was without Hungary. So is there still a possibility for me to establish a colony?
Does anyone have any experience with what it is like to act against the Pope's instructions?

This is the Treaty of Tordesillas. Basically if a nation creates a colonial nation, that region belongs to them from then on. You technically can put a colony there anyway, but I would advise against it. You receive a negative opinion modifier with the pope which can lead to you being excommunicated, and it will take ages for the colony to complete.

Your best bet is to find another region to colonize, or just flip to protestant. Catholic is fantastic when you are blobbing, but it's not always best in a colonial game.

Either flip to Protestant/Reformed, eat the penalties, colonize something else or full annex Spain.

So I would have rather chosen the appropriate group of ideas and had to enter American soil with my settlers before Spain did it.

In my latest game I don't want to annoy the catholic church, because I have plenty of advantages from my 7 cardinals and the good relationship with the Papacy.

Tbh, Colonization of the Americas as Hungary has close to no value. You're better off conquering Anatolia and Egypt and colonizing Indonesia if you picked Exploration. Steering trade from the Americas to you as Hungary would mean conquering basically all of Southern Europe and that's a no go if you want to stay on the good side of the Pope.
