How come if I am at war and laying siege to a province of my enemy; other nations who are also at war with them can just walk through my troops?

I know, it's not my province. Yet.
But what if I'm at war with the nation that is also at war with my enemy? Shouldn't we start fighting over who gets the province?

That sounded complicated...
Hmmm...anybody get that?

Is it a bug or intentional?

It does work ..... sort of .... just had a good example:

I'd been waiting for the right moment to take out the Lenape and grab their Manhattan CoT, slowly building up my forces in Roanoke and Catawba, when the English suddenly turned up and unloaded about 25,000 troops in Delaware. So I declared war on the English. I then had to DoW the Lenape in order to enter their territory and save them from the redcoats

.... so we had a nice three-cornered fight in Manhattan, Delaware and that other one (Susquehanna? :D) in the course of which the poor Lenape got kicked backwards and forwards, I broke the English siege in Delaware and took it myself, but I was too slow to stop them taking Manhattan by assault; then the Lenape gave them Manhattan (presumably because they didn't control any territory by then so the English had a high war score) so I had to besiege it from scratch and take it from the English ... then I annexed the Lenape to make sure it didn't happen again.

Now the English have declared war on the Creek ...

Somehow...it seems logical...maybe....

Example 1:

If the English and the German would have met face to face in France during WW2, they would have fought (as they also did.)

No problems here. They were at war. Ok.

Example 2:

If the English would have met russians in Germany,
they wouldn't have fought eachother (hopefully),
since they are allied with eachother.

Here comes my point:

Example 3:

If the English were out marching through France and they suddenly met an army of, for example, swedes  ,
Do you think they really would just say:

"Well hello, isn't it a nice day? What?
Oh...yes I believe Paris is that way. *Pointing*
Nice to meet you! Bye!"

Normally in wars you don't have three sides fighting, right?
Shouldn't the swedes choose sides when they start their war with France?

Aaah....

Maybe I'm just nitpicking...
But it's REALLY irritating to have a foreign army show up and take half of the colonies I wanted
and I can't DoW them or do nothing about it!

I doubt that the english would have fought the swedish army in France if they were not at war...

probably not, in real life, but on th other hand if the English had been half way through liberating Calais and the Swedes had turned up trying to grab it for Sweden there might have been trouble ;)

I think the game handles it quite well - the third force waits for the two who are already in battle (or siege) to finish, then engages the one who is still there when the smoke clears; which is tough if they have just managed to beat off one enemy then find themselves immediately beset while their morale is still down at "breaking". Tough luck, but quite likely what would have happened in a real war.

My enemy's enemy's enemy is my enemy

In WW2, I seem to remember that Finland were forced into the axis camp when Germany attacked Russia, since Russia had already invaded Finland. I could be wildly wrong with that though.

Not sure that the same thing applies when you're discussing earlier politics though, until maybe about the US wars of independence or something.

Finland wasn't forced into the Axis. They joined. When the Russians invaded them the Germans sent units as "volunteers" to help fight the Russians. When Finland fell and was later liberated by the Germans, the Fins took up arms and fought with the Nazis, they might not have liked everything the Nazis did but they liked the Russians less.

Actually I could DoW them but I'm at war with about 10 different nations at the moment. No more please! ;)

Still, in my opinion it would make more sense if the colonies that are under your control, but still belong to another nation, would be considered as your territory.

That is; No taxes or anything,
but another nation would have to DoW you to enter.
Seems somehow unrealistic to have foreign armies (from nations that don't even like me) just walk straight through me and take what's "rightfully mine" :D

Well...I can't have it all! :)
If I look at it optimistically, it makes for a more challenging game! :)

A true-life example of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend"...

Of course once WWII was over, and the Germans lost, Finland was then forced to appease the Soviets for fear of being invaded again...

But if the Swedish troops in France was there to conquer France then I think both German troops (who controlled France) and English troops (if the readcoats thought that Sweden wanted to keep France as a colony and not just "liberate" them) should attack the Swecish troops, but I don't think the odds for sweden should be good fighting both Germany and the Allied.

Just a design decision folks, could have gone either way.
