We've been told there will be only bug fixing patches now; no new content is planned.

Doesn't mean they won't toss us a bone now and then, but it's likely to be portrait packs, music or other cosmetic issues. Would NOT surprise me if they make further DLC free to mark anniversaries, or as incentives to sign up for stuff.

And we will have a new Monarch's Journey scenario to play every couple of weeks.

Thos was my thought as well. That when the 64bot update leaves beta the game will be effectively finished and we'll be able to get all of the mods updated and then not have to worry about future patc9making them incompatible and modders having to rush in their free time to bring them back up to date.

Yes, that is positive thing, negative is that if they want to mod something and now it is not now posible, it will be propably imposible forever. Do anyone know what modders want to be allowed ?

Yep, that's when the already very active sims modding community started to really go to town with Sims 2, for example - when EA was done with it.

I'm happy with the state of the game as is currently. It's a respectable way to wrap things up. Paradox did a good job, Crusader Kings 2 is a magnificent game and regardless of no new DLC or patches, I'm sure I'll continue playing it for many more years.

CK2 being so good is why I'm not worried about CK3, 1: with such a good base to take inspiration they have the makings of one of the best games ever and 2: of they do manage to stuff it up theres still CK2 to fall back on

Oh. The last time I checked on steam it was still saying I could switch over to the beta patch. I'll have to make sure its upto date then I can start making some alterations to the base wonders file now it won't keep updating and resetting the files

I really hope that we will get a last major patch, so we might be able to play with the basic mechanic they will use for dynasties and houses in CK3, they have already revealed. Just maybe the basic stuff - and Pdx would have a chance so we would able to test the mechanic somehow and could figure out in ck2 how to break stuff. It would be a win win for both, Pdx get much testing of one big feature, so when ck3 will be out mostly the fanbase won't riot and we ck2 player get our cadet branches,... But i would think they would give us this update after they revealed some stuff for ck3 which would hype us even more. But this is just a dream by me :/

The "testing stuff intended for CK3 on CK2" phase has passed. To some degree that's what the last few years HAVE been. If CK3 Beta is opening soon, there will be no more major things to add (that's done at the alpha stage and earlier) and testing is going to be done directly on CK3. CK2 has ceased to be useful as a testbed.

The biggest, and simplest, thing we need allowed is to make non-merchant-Republics, Theocracies, and baronies/landless characters not give you an instant game over. They wouldn't be worth playing with vanilla CK2's mechanics, but it would be extremely helpful to modders if the restrictions were softcoded instead of hardcoded. We can work out how to make them interesting ourselves.
