A brief break from the exciting world of diplomacy to consider the industrial underpinnings of military strength - the ultimate source of all big sticks, whether or not one speaks softly. Here is the infrastructural development of North America in 1847:

Europe, a year later:

And Asia, for comparison:

The contrast between the northern and southern parts of America is, I feel, particularly instructive.

And yet my industrial score is higher then yours interesting...

And why does Gollevaine still talk about the CK alliance called the HRE?

Becouse it has become the synonyme of those selfrightneous western nations which wants Finland to backstab its allies (been them Georgia or someone else) so that it would be weak and alone and ready to be picked up by bloodlusty expansionist:cool:

E.g in other words its just acronym used in here for nations that wants harm for Finland. In same breathstroke the alliance of Finland and Georgia is often called as the samoyedians tough that was only one of the many failed organisations we tried to build around our alliance. (tough not used as much as the term HRE in Finland). Isen't it nice that this game has already created a synonymes and generalisations over it's own products?

And why does Gollevaine still talk about the CK alliance called the HRE?

Because in OTL it was dissolved by Napoleon, in our game it as an institution was never dessolved although it has no practical power or influence whatsoever and is largely a Prusso-German political institution, the idea however is that the Prusso-French-German-Italo bloc has never really changed its name and thus is still the "Holy Roman Empire Alliance/Bloc/Coalition"

Also a little interesting fact to those who have just begun to follow this game.

The orginal peacedeal between China and Italy-Franco aggression in the end years of EuIII was that China releases 100 mil pops which would have been edited to every other player evenly. This was suggestion of Finland and all parties agreed to it alongside with many non-participant-but-still-making-loud-noises-on-the-side-of-the-field nations. However our GM KoM rejected this after opposition from mainly those players which were to abandon our game anyway (and for some other unknown reasons). Thus the "tax them 'till they are dead" deal was made in hastly fashion and leaved alot of questionmarks and grey area.

This current hysteria is mainly becouse Indonesia found out that china indeed was large and as it is at the moment the sole nation to which china could reach at this point (and sole nation which china actually has any reasons to attack as well in the area). Now suddenly the whole world (read Indonesia) is in great perill and indeed something must be done!!

Finland has stated that it will remain neutral and it it will hold, but due consistent condemption and open hostility, Finland has cancelled it's alliance with Indonesia. We haven't forsaken them however and if Indonesians decides to act as allyes are custom to do, we can re-ally with Indonesian federation and offer our strong experience to solve issues regarding china diplomatically instead of blood.

For someone who doesn't wished to be attacked from all sides, China doesn't seem to have the whole humble thing down the way they probably should (although if roleplaying a Maoist foreign policy and attitude is China's goal I am inclined to give him an A+). I think the genius that Fasquardon displayed was in enhancing his power in such a way as to not provoke a major coalition against him. A similar hegemon in waiting (as China appears to be becoming) would probably do well to follow his example.

War of the Finnish Succession anyone? ;)

Well given that Fasq lured gangbangs on him like magnets, that statement seems bit odd...I mean 98% of all Finnish/Novgorodian fightings were to help out Georgia...So I strongly suggest china to do better than Georgia did:rolleyes:

Now suddenly the whole world (read Indonesia) is in great perill and indeed something must be done!!

No, the "hysteria" started because Blayne is trying to abuse every damn loophole in the peacetreaty me and Italy signed with him. If one does not stick to the treaties I sign, I tend to get slighty "pissed" - I don't see how that is strange.

What if Prussia had attacked Finland while you had had a NAP? Would you simply ignore it and continue making deals with Prussia as you did before? That does not even take into account what global threat China is. I usually hate wars for "balance", but I don't think there's another way right now.

The calculation above is totally absurd, and you know that, Blayne. It was easy - you tax 150 million to emmigration or death, with the option of reducing the number to 100 million if the emmigration was big enough.

It does not matter how much Georgia or everyone else is gaining in the meantime - as the only prupose of this treaty was to make your population less overwhelming compared to the others, you knew that.

Personally, I wouldn't have had a problem with reducing the number to 100, as there seem to be indeed quite some emmigrants. But you fail to show any good faith, you tell us lies about "a few months break" to lower revoltrisk, and then keep the taxes low for years, you buy large amounts of war-material - certainly to prove us your peaceloving nature - you try to buy allies all around the world, and you even come up with that "calculation"?

Seriously... WTF???

Just to make sure that I am not getting you wrong... Your compromise is "I'll tax 48 million to death"? Apparently you are really keen on war, as this "compromise" is not acceptable.

I jus read your arguments and it is very clear that finland and china like each othere, and are indeed powerfull enuf to at least hold back the world if not divide it. China is just trying to buy time inorder to expand it's industries at the same time the rest are very slow at doing so.Finland is helping china becuse china gives it stuff that it dosn't give the rest, if finland were to remain neutral the war would most likly be a stalemate, this is probably what finland wants, china is not harmed and it can continue to help out finland. SO the only way you will ever get finland to pressure china is by offering him MONEY, STUFF, and chinese territory.

China has no reason right now to follow up on the treaty, it can easly repleal an attack by Italy, UK, France and inodonesia.

Is it just me KoM or are you aeons ahead of everyone else in rail roads, except Malacca, and maybe Italy? :eek:o

The railroads on the Po plain are actually on French territory; we don't have an Italy as such, we have the Stati Uniti Italiano d'America, the United Italian States of America, and they only own Venice for old times' sake.

To answer your question, I'm not as far ahead as it looks, but it sure does look good, doesn't it? :D The reason is that all my widespread railroads are level-1, while some of more localised development in other nations are level-2 and even a few level-3. I've noticed that cappies like to build continental possessions - North America in my case - up to the max before they start in on anything else. Since for me, "anything else" includes the British Isles with their huge coal and iron deposits and large (by Norwegian standards) population, I would really like them to be built up quickly. So I'm refraining from getting level-2 railroad tech until the cappies have got their act together in Britain and built level-1 railroads everywhere. It's a workaround for the fact that my cappies, bless their little algorithmic brains, prefer to build railroads in North Dakota, population 20k and two horses, before getting around to London. I kid you not, I saw this happen.

Does that matter? :\

Unfortunately, for players who clearly intend to respond to the balance of military power rather than the spirit and letter of signed treaties, it does matter. Threats, alas, are more effective when the one making them will be present and able to make them good.

Unfortunately, for players who clearly intend to respond to the balance of military power rather than the spirit and letter of signed treaties, it does matter. Threats, alas, are more effective when the one making them will be present and able to make them good.

France has already been guaranteed a sub who for atleast one session who will fight china to the death, and there also interest from the blood n iron forum, so I actually see some bite behinds VonR's bark.

It should also be noted your maps were not from the latest save, at the end of the session I had at least railroad 2 on all my major islands in addition to mainland *due to building cappies on each island.

Hmm it would be interesting to see each nations total ammount of capitalists, however I fear china will out number the rest of the world 10 to 1.

As an inhabitant of North Dakota, it makes perfect sense to me. London can be part of civilization without railroads - North Dakota can't . Also, that two horses is the official permanent total for tax purposes, they always seem to escape or get stolen just before the assessors make the rounds...

Ahhh I'm aware of that KoM, I was more referring to the fact that you didn't provide a pic of Italy at all :D

Thanks for the explanation of Vicky though, I've found the game interesting but never got around to buying it.
