The Empire of Hispania

So I hold 4 kingdoms. Portugal, Galicia, Castille and Aragon. The first three are agnatic - cognatic elective and aragon is agnatic - cognatic primogeniture. When I enact the decision to form Hispania, the empire becomes agnatic - cognatic gavelkind. This I calculated with and I'm waiting the ten years to switch elective.

So far so good... My problem is that my elective kingdoms seem to reset their candidates and I'm not able to nominate a new one. Is this a bug or am I missing something? Also, how many kingdoms can I hold as emperor?

Had simirial problem,I was despot of Taurica,vasall of the ERE and I couldnt nominate new emperor (elective monarchy)

On the Kingdoms thing, there's no real limit other than the malus you get when your lovely vassals desire one of your non primary titles (I think you get your original kingdom as a freebie though) You might decide to give out the smaller kingdoms (like Leon, Castille, Navarra or Galicia) to some family members with claims on other kingdoms outside your realm and push them to expand your domains though.

It's not the original kingdom that's free, it's the one your capital is in. if I were you, I'd give all the little kingdoms away to vassals, move your demesne to Granada and not worry about holding kingdom titles.

No. But the opinion penalty for vassals desiring a kingdom is higher than for holding an excess duchy.

Doesn't that present a prestige loss? Why no kingdoms?

In elective you get a penalty for every elector title other than your primary one you hold. And elector titles are kingdoms in this case.
Even titular ones gives you negative modifers.
My preferred way is still to drift everything on the peninsula into one kingdom.

IIRC, vassal kingdoms give more prestige than owned ones, or at the very least the same. There's no prestige reason for not giving away titles.

You might not be an elector.

Taurica is not de jure ERE, maybe that's the issue?

I can't remember if electors are de jure+de facto or just de jure vassals, though.

De facto vassals are eligible candidates, but only de jure vassals can vote, at least that's how it seems to work in my game.

And it seems de jure non de facto vassals can vote aswell. At least the Duke of Carinthia was my vassal instead of the HRE and kept occasionally voting for me to be the new emperor, that was weird. I didn't know people outside the empire could be voted on.
