The consolidation of the Heavy fighter into the Medium Airframe may have reduced the coding of air combat, etc., in the front end.
But it IMO is seriously flawed. Most Heavy fighters were at most midway between the size of the Small Airframe of Fighters and the Medium Airframes of Tactical or Medium Bombers.
1) it also caused the elimination of some fighter modules used that were actually used, ex.: Drop Tanks & Armor plates.
Armor Plate on (Med) Airframe: -10% range, Air Def. +6, Weight +4.
Armor Plate on (Smi) Airframe : -10% range, Air Def. +4, Weight +2.
Extra fuel tanks (Med) Airframe: +15& range, Air Def -6, Weight +4
Extra fuel tanks (Sml) Airframe: +15% range, Air Def -2, Weight +1
Drop Tanks on (Sml) Airframe: +300 kM, Weight +2
Just being able to add Drop Tanks on a designed Heavy Fighter would be useful. You are already giving up +2 Air def & +2 weight.
Once you place Fighter weapons in the First slot you should have access to all fighter modules.
