An analysis of DP sliders and Random Events

Like the title says. These are Vanilla GC events only. I only read through the event file once, so if someone wants to double check this that would be great.

Aristocracy

Good events tied to the aristocracy slider

"Gift to the State" - Extra set for aristocracy 6 or higher (and high serfdom).

If you really need a casus belli "nobles ally with a foreign power" is OK. (see below)

Bad events tied to the aristocracy slider

"Noble Feud" - Aristocracy 4 or greater.
"Nobles ally with a foreign power" - Aristocracy 3 or greater.
"Cities Demand old rights" - Aristocracy 6 or greater (and high centralization)

"Nobles Petition for Old Rights" - Aristocracy between 1 and 9; extra set for aristocracy between 1 and 5. (also high centralization)

Events that move the aristocracy slider

"Noble Demands Recovery of Former Rights" - Aristocracy between 1 and 9. Can move both ways.
"Bourgeoisie Request Privileges" - Aristocracy between 1 and 9; extra set for aristocracy between 6 and 9. Can move both ways.

"Build a Great Palace" - Aristocracy 9 or lower. Can only raise Aristocracy.

Conclusions on Aristocracy

If you're planning on having a low aristocracy already, you can avoid a great deal of negative events by having zero aristocracy. The opposite extreme also avoids some negative events.

Centralization

Good events tied to the centralization slider

none (centralization is good enough already ;))

Bad events tied to the centralization slider

"Colonial Uprising" - Centralization 6 or greater; extra set for centralization 8 or greater.

Events that move the centralization slider

"Cities Demand old rights" - Centralization 1 or greater; extra set for centralization 6 or greater (and high aristocracy). Can only lower centralization.
"Nobles Petition for Old Rights" - Centralization 4 or greater; extra set for centralization 6 or greater. Also requires high aristocracy. Can only lower centralization.

"Petition for redress" -Centralization 9 or lower. Can only raise centralization.
"Build a Great Palace" - Centralization 9 or lower. Can only raise centralization.

Conclusions on centralization

It only brings negative events, and it's hard to keep it high, but it's worth it for the actual slider effects.

Innovativeness

Good events tied to the innovativeness slider

"Unexpected Invention" - Innovativeness 7 or greater; extra set at innovativeness 9 or greater.

"Colonial Dynamism" - Innovativeness 3 or lower.
"Conversion of Heretics" - Innovativeness 2 or lower.

Bad events tied to the innovativeness slider

"Heretic Uprising" - Innovativeness 4 or lower; extra set at 2 or lower.

Events that move the innovativeness slider

"Unhappiness among the Clergy" - Innovativeness 3 or higher. Extra set at 6 or higher and another set at 8 or higher. Can only lower innovativeness.

"Uncooperative Philosopher" - Innovativeness between 1 and 9. Can move both ways.

"Exceptional Court Painter" and "Commissioning a University" - Innovativeness 9 or lower. Can only raise innovativeness.

Conclusions on innovativeness

The slider will tend toward 2, which is a nice spot due to heretic conversion and colonial dynamism. If you're going for high innovativeness, get it to 9 for the unexpected invention events.

Mercantilism

Good events tied to the mercantilism slider

"Monopoly Company Forms" - Extra set at mercantilism 7 or greater.

"Explorer" - Mercantilism 3 or lower; extra set at 1 or lower. Also requires low land.

Bad events tied to the mercantilism slider

"Unhappiness amongst the Merchants" - Mercantilism 6 or greater; extra set at 8 or greater.

Events that move the mercantilism slider

"Foreign Trade competition" - Mercantilism between 1 and 9. Can move both ways.

Conclusions on mercantilism

Low mercantilism is slightly better from a random event perspective.

Offensive

Good events tied to the offensive slider

"Fortification" - Offensive 3 or lower; extra set at 1 or lower.

Bad events tied to the offensive slider

None.

Events that move the offensive slider

"Italian Engineer" (Europe only) - Offensive 3 or greater. Can only lower offensive.

"Foreign Drill Instructor" (Europe only) - Offensive 9 or lower. Can only raise offensive.

Conclusions on offensive

Low offensive is significantly better from a random event perspective.

Land

Good events tied to the land slider

"Explorer" - Land 3 or lower; extra set at 1 or lower.

"Establish Cantonments" (extra manpower) - Land 6 or higher.

Bad events tied to the land slider

None.

Events that move the land slider

None.

Conclusions on land

Your choice on this slider is still largely dependent on the country you're playing.

Quality

Good events tied to the quality slider

None.

Bad events tied to the quality slider

None.

Events that move the quality slider

"Foreign Drill Instructor" (Europe only) - Quality 9 or lower. Can only raise quality.

Conclusions on quality

Nothing to see here.

Serfdom

Good events tied to the serfdom slider

"Gift to the State" - Extra set for serfdom 6 or higher (and high aristocracy).

Bad events tied to the serfdom slider

Unhappiness among the Peasants" - Serfdom 6 or greater; extra set at 8 or greater.

Events that move the serfdom slider

"Unhappiness among the Artisans" - Serfdom 4 or greater. Can only lower serfdom.

Conclusions on serfdom

Getting serfdom down to 5 is nice for avoiding the dreaded unhappy peasants event.
