Hi,

Basically : will there be an extensive economy screen, and will you be able to pass social legislation (women's right to vote in exchange for public order) ?

Even though it might not be central to a WWII game, it would make it easier to mod. I would greatly enjoy being able to play as, let's say Argentina from 1933 to 1953 and go and conquer all of South America and develop it's economy.

Paradox, fellow forum members, any love for the economic / political aspect of the game ?

Paradox, fellow forum members, any love for the economic / political aspect of the game ?

Yes... but unfortunately I think we're in the minority.

IMO, a good strategic game about WW2 should give you the ability to choose economic policies with a significant effect on the war effort. A player doesn't need 50 different policies but maybe 7 or 8 to give flexibility and replayability.

The game will have a political point system which is supposed to allow you to do things to get points that you then can trade in for bonuses such as converting civilan ic into military ic.

However the game don't have a focus on economy, well you can say it does with production lines and such however it is maybe how an general would look at the economy.
But you can build civilan IC, actually civilian IC is supposed to build all? improvements including factories so you could think that you are building up your economy that way.

I personally like this kind of thing, but it would be getting a bit off-target for a game focussed on WW2 to develop it more than necessary to reflect the military conflict. Would be cool as maybe some DLC that focussed on internal development, if there were enough people interested?

As I understand there will be a possibility to spend some kind of political points to add new party members who will add special boosts/bonuses in military, economy, tech or espionage.

I would really love to see more possibilities in political part of the game, than just adding "+5% organisation regen rate for all mobile units" due adding Gudurian to NSDAP.

Unfortunately, HOI3 used a system of laws and doctrines where each one was simply "better" than each of the previous ones (as done in the Civilization games). It was a meta-game thing to do whatever it took to "unlock" the higher laws and doctrines. There were huge "up sides" and minor or no "down sides", instead of each one being a more realistic tradeoff between positives and negatives to different aspects of your economy, society, and army.

Please, Paradox, give us "hard choices" between realistic alternatives, not a simple race to get the next new thing on the list. This isn't a fantasy RPG where you have to grind experience points to unlock +1 swords, then +2, etc.

Im pretty sure that the game will not have laws.
Mobilization will now be converting civilian IC to military IC and we can probably spend political points to get manpower (recruitment campaign) which will be in very limited supply and needed for many things.

I think Civilian IC will be used to create other (civilian, military or naval) production lines and commodities (used to keep national unity high).

To be fair to mobilization laws in HOI3, since the war is the entire focus of the game, increasing the IC "budget" for military stuff is by definition a winning move. I'm not sure how you could have done it different in HOI3 with the way it was set up.

I found it more irritating that for the longest time, wars against the most minor countries could be used to game the system. This was partially fixed by the IC ratio rule, but not completely.

I talked before about changing the way consumer goods function in relation to unity or dissent or party popularity. But in a game where the war is front and center, how would you further balance economic mobilization?

The hard choices could be based on time - if you mobilise too early, you could risk getting the population off-side, decreasing national unity (or HoI4 equivalent) or losing elections in a democracy (this'd require some kind of election dynamic as well, at least pre or early-war)?

This is a good point. Furthermore, you should be able to stay neutral for an extended period of time and developp your industry by selling to belligerants - imagine Brazil or Argentina, spending a great part of your game building up and getting rich, and join on the bandwagon of the wining side, or backstabing them to change the world balance. I would greatly enjoy the option, and would add to replay value in my opinion.

This is a good point. Furthermore, you should be able to stay neutral for an extended period of time and developp your industry by selling to belligerants - imagine Brazil or Argentina, spending a great part of your game building up and getting rich, and join on the bandwagon of the wining side, or backstabing them to change the world balance. I would greatly enjoy the option, and would add to replay value in my opinion.

As cool as this sounds, how will it work without stockpiles or money? We can't really "get rich" like that.

The wiki says we might be able to trade equipment. I don't know if it has been completely conformed yet. I really hope we can.
