The Eastern Mediterranean Campaign 1419 – ca 1550

The idea is to create a smaller campaign with a narrower geographic scope during a shorter time span. The campaign will start later this summer and be played by experienced, dedicated players. Sessions will be 4-6 hours at least once a week. This thread is set up to gain feedback, good ideas and see what players are interested.

Considering the pick playable states and the limited geographical area it will be a competitive game. Wars of conquest are allowed and it is allowed to annex player nations. Role-playing is encouraged but not mandatory. Being a backstabbing weasel is probably no disadvantage either and definitely allowed. So far I see no point in making any house rules to change the game engines own rules. Thus it is allowed to refuse peace while being stab hit and technically having no chance to win the war etc. It is allowed to make unhistorical alliances with religious opponents if wished for etc. Hopefully this thread will fill up with interesting views and opinions and all this might change before the campaign is started.

When considering who’s the winner of the campaign the state with the most success compared to its historical counterpart will be used as well as VP and comparison of military and economical achievements. Progress outside the Eastern Med will be considered in to a lesser extent.

Difficulty level: normal/weakling

Playable countries
1.Ottoman Empire
2. Mameluks
3. Venice
4. Papal states
5. Genoa
6. Naples
7. The Knights
8. Byzan
9. Karaman
10. Georgia

Special rules:
Colonization will not be allowed with a few exceptions. The OE is allowed to colonize in the Indian Ocean area. Catholic states are allowed to colonize African provinces.

Territorial conquest:
Provinces may only be gained south of France, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary in Europe. Africa is open. Americas are off limit. Persia and India are open. This is of course to narrow down the geographical theatre of the campaign and focus it on the Eastern Med.

Any other good ideas for this campaign? Any interested players?

For reference, an EEP Eastern Med Campaign was suggested way back, you might find some ideas there. The idea was mainly to mainly allow conquest of certain provinces, to keep competition fierce. Also it was supposed to be played with EEP, to get events for all players. I'd be interested to join in, but I'll be away all of July.
Mowers also did some games like this, he really recommended a Hungarian player, to keep the Ottomans at bay.

The idea of the campaign came from mnorre and that thread so I shouldnt take credit for the idea. Since it never started I just thought Id try to make ig going again. I think starting in the beginning of August is a good idea and Im sure we could use what was being discussed in that other thread as a ground for this campaign. Adding EEP sounds fun for MP play and of course Hungary could be a part. Especially if the game ends before Austria inherits.

Maybe someone could summarize what was decided in the original EMC thread here as a base for discussion?

EEP *seems* highly unstable for MP (me and my brother tried it on LAN, didn't work.. though normal EU2 does work)

interested in playing.. Naples sounds nice

I'm playing EEP MP with six friends regularly on Mondays and Wednesdays since about half a year. The problem with moddir (a bug in EU2, not EEP) that makes the game crash in the lobby that probably kept Forzaa from playing is easily fixable (you need to copy scenarios and saves to the standard scenarios folder). Other than that, it's working fine, neither much slower nor less stable than the standard GC.
I'd be interested in participating in this if you're using EEP (standard GC is crappy).

I stand corrected then, Twoflower seems to know.
I'd be intereseted in playing as well, preferably with EEP. But not before August. The main idea of the campaign I once suggested was this:
Geographic limitations:
The idea with EEP Eastern Med Campaign is in some way to simulate the conflicts in the eastern Mediterranean in the first half of the game. I figure that without special rules made for it, the campaign will have very little chance of becoming this. Players will have too strong incitement to colonize and expand in some ahistorical direction for a long build-up and then meet for clashes in the end. That can be fun but I will not put many hours of playing into it. Some rather strict limitations are implemented, to keep the nations focused and competing in the same area.

A Campaign Area is defined. It consists of the provinces with the following cultures: Italian, Slavonic, Maltese, Greek, Albanian, Romanian, Turkish, Armenian, Kurdish, Georgian, Syrian, Nubian and Arabic. The Arabic area stretches from Tunisia in the east to the Persian border and includes the Arabic Peninsula.
Outside this area the nations may only acquire one province each through peace treaties and diplomatic annexations. Exception is made for conquest and direct release as vassals. Vassal states can be had in Africa, the Middle East and Europe. Conquests of colonies with the above cultures are allowed as well.

Colonisation
Colonisation is only allowed in Africa and the islands in the western Indian Ocean (including Bahrain), this applies to all nations.

It was planned to be played from 1419 to 1600, but 1550 might be enough. The idea was to keep competition fierce with this small area and not let a player wander off away from all the others.
