I read
something and it seems that EUIII was highly historically innacurate in depicting Majapahit. Majapahit should've owned most of Indonesia, in the 14th century it should've been struck in many civil wars, for instance in 1405 there should've been a pretender rebellion/rebel nation under Wirabumi in the east.
There's great potential for EUIV (or at least its expansions), and I have one idea. In the mid-1450s start of EUIV, Majapahit should probably be in great decline, with pretender rebellions in season, and Majapahit will be/is at war with Malacca. Majapahit should see Malacca and Sunda (which should occupy the usually-empty provinces west of Majapahit) as rivals at the start of the game, and Majapahit should have strained relations with its vassals. Maybe Majapahit could have automatic cores on most of Indonesia, or at least events that could give it cores, especially related to "Sumpah Palapa". (Then again, Gajah Mada has died decades before, so these cores don't count)
One of my ideas might look like this, though it's not historically accurate at all, so if anyone has researched this a little more, it would be great:
Black stripes indicate rebels, while colored outlines indicate cores of potential nations. Malacca is at war with Majapahit. The light-green nation is Sunda/Pajajaran, a new nation. By event, maybe Majapahit could disintegrate into colonizable territory if they've been defeated. Majapahit has its centralization/decentralization at max decentralization, to reflect the fact that it's mostly made up of vassals.
This is the mod I was talking about:

Also, Majapahit's original flag was already pretty good, though you could always add 9 stripes like
