The easiest way to patch the game...

I know that the dev of the game are doing the best to deliver us a good game and the beta testing phase will focus a lot of issues and this will be fixed. But as Johan says: a patch is never late... we will have a patch, probably 2, 3, 4...

I wanted to know if a feature will be introduced in the main menu of HoI3 that helps the player while patching the game. IMO for HoI2 it is really a juggle with the different patches and different language versions...

1/I wanted that it works like this:
- in the main menu i can press a button to search for a patch (so I don't need to search in a forum for links for download etc...)
- if there is an available patch, i can download it.
- and eventually an extra: if there is more than one patch, I can choose the patch I want to install. (This can help for person playing in multi-player and don't want the last version for any reason)


2/ Moreover will the patches be cumulative? It means in patch 1.3 all the changes of patch 1.1 and 1.2 are in...

I know for EU 3, it is the reason why I'm asking if it will be in HoI3 as well because i want this user friendly interface to be in the game I will buy in August...

I'd encourage Paradox to check the way that the Sparkle framework is set up on OS X. It's so nice that almost every new app is using it these days (outside of big developers like MS and Adobe).

Checks for updates on startup, and offers you the choice to patch now, wait, or ignore it entirely, with release notes right in front of your nose.

That does look good. Though I think there's nothing wrong with the EU3 patching system. Supreme Commander had an auto patching system through GPG net, but it was horiffic. You had to log in every time it updated (which seemed like a million times) and the whole experience was clunky and bad.

I for one love it when the game comes with a patch-program that alerts you of a new version and lets you download it from the company itself.

That'd be ideal.

@ oribiasi: Please nooooo! I think I have enough installed program on my pc that are poping-up when I'm switching my pc on. I'd rather have a button that I press if i want to update. Moreover the user should ALWAYS have the choice between playing the original game and playing patched version.

You don't need a program to start when windows starts. Just one that checks when you lanuch the gaem, similar to teh EU3 launcher.
Personally I hate it when I have to try and find the patch file from a third party vendor. I refuse to get it from any site where I have to sign in, then I probably have to wait in a queue. So annoyying. Just want a auto-check and download option when the game starts.

You basically answered your own question. HoI3 uses the EU3 engine. Seeing as they kept it for Rome, I'd say it will most definitely be in HoI3 as well.

Have you been reading the HOI2 and EUIII tech support forums recently.:rofl: Hopefully P'dox nad Steam have worked things out but Steam users had a hell of a time getting their games patched for more than a couple weeks.

I recently bought the Orange Box, and I didn't have much trouble patching all of those games, but I won't deny that I've heard many problems with other games recently.

While I personally have not purchased any Paradox games via Steam, all other games I have purchased (Day of Defeat, Xcom 2 & 3, Far Cry, Bioshock, Sid Meirs' Pirates!, Half Life 2, HL2 Ep1, HL2 Ep2, and others) have had zero issues with patching and updating.

In that case, you have a game developed by Valve on a distribution platform by Valve. I surely hope delivery and updating are well implemented. Paradox is a different company, and Steam has been failing at properly giving keys and updates.

They seem to have been cleared up for the most part but it was pretty ugly there for a while, no key to register the games, no manuals no ability to patch the game without making registry changes.
