So i just played a game where in the first 20 years an adventurer attacked. Cill Dara's chancellor decided he could raise 1700 troops and kill me.

I was playing as tuadhmnhumhain.. The first ruler only lasted 10 years and didn't have an ally, his son also did not.

The first king did pretty decent, as he had semi good stats, so he pulled in enough to make a market.. and put away a little. But he just could not pull in enough prestige to build a war camp before he died, so even though he kept getting the chance for a CB, he couldn't take it.

His heir was pretty bad.

A zero steward so no cash income what so ever He and his brother had plenty of kids, but all were to young to gain any allies and just a few years before they would have married a few key families from england and wales it happend... An adventurer threat!

I Got lucky and got an event spawn, so 850 troops waiting and then i see the 1800 spawn in the next province.. Total wipe... and the lineage was no more.

Silly me, I did have one option,, borrow 350 gold, and rent some troops! I did not think of that at the time for some reason, but ahh well, stupid Iron man mode! lol Time to start over! I hope you enjoyed my CK story, of the mighty Chief Mael-Duin Empire.. it lasted all of 20 years, with really nothing of note.. 650 points for my efforts.

Just curious if this was odd, because i really don't recall having an adventurer against me at such an early time.. the kids from the start of the game are were still a few years from being adults. Then again, this is why i love the game, it really does play so different each time. I've played countless kings many times, and never plays the same way twice.. (that is, I typically save at the start of a new kings rule, and then play them a few ways for kicks) Like what happens if i war with this nation.. or what about seeing about marring into that. It's sorta like mini campaigns, for high score against yourself. Anyone else do this too?

Just an update, something i figured out. I played this spot as a start a few times, and notice it did have an early adventure against it and instead of just borrowing the 350 and highering soldiers which was the easy thing to do it made me wonder if there was a way to defeat it with out doing that.

I did another start, and in just a few years a religious uprising was a large risk, lolards in the south and cathar up north. With in 8 years a huge uprising happened and took out the cill Dara, and the guy with the claim ran to my court so kinda problem solved but it wasn't me. So i did another start, as while it was effective, it was just random events that took it out for me and i wanted to see if perhaps there was another way to deal with this.

So it got me thinking, how i could tell if it might happen. I then realized i could just do a search for all and culture group, and look for people with strong claims. Then i saw it and thought ah ha! A guy that had a strong claim, and didn't like me much. I'll bet he will try it again! So this time, i started playing i just did a simple start, increase Diplomacy with tribes my one ally, my sons wife who's father is the ruler of Kent and find some nice concubines to boost my prestige.

The king happen to find a women who was the daughter of the count of Paris. A nice frank and a good prestige bonus to boot. Between that, and gaining just over 3 prestige a month an early warcamp wasn't far of. Lucky me to as soon as he had enough pres to build it, he died not more than a few months after. But hey the chief, left the realm with a few nice women, and a small bonus of soldiers.

Now his son takes over and as a young man of later 20's and should have 10-15 years to take on this threat that will be coming. He was an Elusive shadow, arbitrary, Cruel and a Zealot to boot, nice guy eh, and just the man for the job. I moved my diplomat to Cill Dara to try to get the chief to like me as he has a darn big army anyway and best to keep him on my good side, not to mention his large family could join in too.

Then I found a nice person to recruit as a new spy as mine was awful. I found just a man who has a strong claim to press on the urhumhain just next door so i thought maybe we could work together. I invited and he responded with a nice Yes and presto the first step was complete. a respectable 15 intrigue ready to goto work and help plot against my unsuspecting prey

I then sent off one of my newly recruited concubines that my father acquired for a moment just like this. Marry the man with the strong claim, and none would be the wiser about the plot from within. I then went into full seduction mode and both the girl i sent over to be his wife, and the wife of the chief himself and manipulated both women to join my plot by this point I had almost saved the 20 gold (was at 16) needed to give to the greedy spy to help boost the plot another 85%! when one of my the girls told me he shall be poisoned by wine at a party tonight.

I thought, no not yet, just a few months longer and we could get some major help, but things were set in motion and all i could was hold my breath. Fortunately for me, it worked and no one suspected. A master manipulation the two girls to do my bidding and now there was no longer the threat of the strong claim on my kingdom. But as they say Karma is a B*&#$$, and he died only 4 years after his father of pneumonia.

His brother now needs to be a family man as he is the last of his line, but only time will tell. He already has his eyes on the province of Deasmhuhain........ But what else do you want from this family, ambitions, deceitful, and envious.. somethings may never change.

Point of story, besides sorta fan fiction, is i stopped the invasion before it started with out having to borrow money, which i kinda thought would be my only option.. wow what a game, even after 3 years i still learn new tricks!

I had one come after me about 15 years into my second try at Aed Mac Gabrain in the Isles. I quit and started over because I didn't have a snowball's chance in hell of beating him, especially after Pictland declared war on me mid-fight.

On the flipside, about the year 1030, just after winning the First Crusade for Andalusia, an adventurer came after me for Scotland while I was beating down an elective succession revolt. Unfortunately for him, he had about 6k troops to my ~16k, plus I was allied to Aquitaine. I roflstomped his army in Spain and went back to roflstomping the revolt, then he took ship to Lothian and ran right into the Aquitainians.

When you get to a certain size, adventurers are free money. :D

Another update on adventurers.. It would seam they also can be from random places. Honestly i never really paid much attention if there was any sorta pattern. But it does look like some places get a scripted adventure at times, and others are random? I say this as i have been playing around in ireland a lot, and starting in Osraige which i have done many times or Breifne and i never got adventures this early, though perhaps i was just lucky?

Continuing on the play i have talked about above,, as it is going very well/fun so far. It started off a bit slow dealing with the early chaos and quick deaths, the third ruler came through and has spawned 2 sons, and a bunch of daughters even if he was a late bloomer that didn't have a single kid before 30. His children are now grown and having kids of their own with have semi decent sized families with Brilliant dwarves! Ok not yet, just a few brilliants, and some dwarves. The plan is to turn Ireland into a bunch of brilliant dwarves that will take over GB! I had to import some good DNA cause the starting family has the stutter/lisp traits mixed in.. This game makes me laugh, i can see it now, a bunch of brilliant dwarves debating who to take over next all while stuttering and stammer.. N,n,n,oooo th, th, thee, they attacked us...us :)

at any rate, at 809 another adventurer spawned from adgar in Danmark. He was an adventurer stat, but no claim on my territories, unless they are hidden or something else is happening. But this one was easy to beat down. I had already created Munu and started raiding, and my children had married into Wessex, and Powys.. But i had hoarded enough gold to higher 1500 if needed. So much easier 20-30 years in. But those raids in the first 5-10 can be rough.

as far as free money goes, do you only get the money if they have more than what they have to loose first? Like i often see, adventurer looses 500 gold, sometimes i get none, but other times i get gold. I never really paid much attention to other peoples gold or prestige. but as of late i have been watching it more. Not sure how it really effects me, but i guess i'll pay attention more. I'm creeping in at 550 hours played so far, and i swear every time i play i learn new tricks.
