The reddish one with people fighting everywhere?

IIRC that question was asked previously, and the answer was a famous italian renaissance artist (michaelangelo? rafael? don't recall), but it depicts either Dante's hell or the Apocalypse.

Too long ago  .. but it's a very good painting.

What picture is this? The only ones I can think of are the main menu picture with the four statuesque heads, or the collage that borders certain diplomatic actions.

That's by Hieronymus Bosch, it does indeed depict Hell. Here's another of his type of thing:

If you want my opinion, Bosch ate a little to much of the mouldy bread, if ya know what I mean.

Ever tried playing a Paradox game with too much badboy?

Ever tried playing a Paradox game where your provinces have a serious problem with the way you run things?

It's not the first time this question came up in this forum, so I kind of remembered. In addition, the Brueghels are among the most famous painters and therefore someone interested in history will come across them automatically.

And I like his paintings as well (and the already mentioned Hieronymus Bosch too). Btw. I couldn't resist to take a look at his paintings in the link I gave and this "winter landscape" aroused my interest. It seems to be harmless, but I think it has a very strong anti-cleric message hidden. ;)

Bosch is weird if you ask me, never really liked his paintings, of course they were made to be haten, people are supposed to hate hell  But some things border the normal on his pictures, like a guy sticking a flute up another guys butt and blowing in it and that was hung in a church!

LOL

Breughel (sp?) the Elder: the rebellion of the fallen angels (or is it "the fall of the rebel angels?")

EDIT: here is the usual link: http://www.ibiblio.net/wm/paint/auth/bruegel/
The triumph of death would also be a nice painting for a game ;)

So waitaminute, it was Brugel, and not Bosch's work?

Either way I think I've spotted a pattern here, one of the paintings you linked to was used on the cover for Civilisation III...
