Rhaegal’s reign started off with war as Syaella Targaryen declared herself Empress of New Valyria. She gathered adventurers and exiles from Asshai, but her greatest asset was Meraxes. The war claimed five of the Targaryen Dragons including Meraxes. The realm stood on a knife’s edge as Meraxes had killed four dragons and destroyed most of the loyalist army. The death of Meraxes was the turning point in the war for the loyalists. Rhaegal would come of age and ride his dragon into war leading the final push when the war ended. The war killed untold thousands as it waged for seven years and on two continents. There was a curious case of mass dancing for days in Gogossos in 99 A.L. In 106 A.L Rhaegal executed the High Septon known as “The Shy One” for conspiring to murder a member of the royal household. In 111 A.L Empress Baenys started her conquest of the Summer Islands. She often called her Husband to war to both win and keep her throne. Rhaegal had five children he survived all but two. Prince Haegon was granted Dragonstone in 113 A.L and would marry his sister-wife Leaysa a year later. Qohor rebelled for its independence in 133 A.L. The war was brief with most of the Realm siding with the Emporer and providing troops for the siege of Qohor. In 138 Empress Baenys lost her lands in the Summer Islands due to her breaking the Alliance with her husband and the prince of Dragonstone Haegon “The Amazing” was named king. Rhaegal Started a war in 145 A.L. with Qarth and the various lords of Moraq citing his dragon gave him the right to conquer them. He also attended his daughter Leaysa's funeral in 145 A.L. Rhaegal Colonized Sothoryos in 146 A.L. He succeeded at bringing them to heel in 147 A.L. shortly before Empress Baenys “The Cruel” died. He would be a drunkard for the rest of his days. in 151 A.L Rhaegal proved his son’s innocence in a trial of Seven. Rhaegal had lived for so long he had a great-grandson in his teens before died. The succession was more than clear. He died of alcohol poisoning at 82 years old passing the throne to his son Haegon “The Amazing” at age 65. Rhaegal's reign saw the largest expansion of house Targaryen's power since the conquest with Harrenhal, Saath, The Summer Islands and the Conquests of Rhaegal.
