The anticipation that I had this game was unmeasurable. I could not wait for it and pumped myself up to play it. Unfortunately since then it has been mostly disappointment. The game was patched to a playable state as it should be but with the continuous release of DLC that greatly fix and improve the game I feel somewhat cheated that in order to fully experience the game I need to pay Extra. Times change and DLC is the way of the future however I think it is wrong that I have to pay for fixes by purchasing DLC. Improving AI and Supply Systems should not be DLC. Adding Scenarios, Sprites etc. should be. I know many Paradox fanboys will flame but it is to be expected on here. I love PI games and will continue to purchase them I just felt I needed to express my disappointment on HOI3 and where it seems games are heading in terms of Patching and DLC.

And which DLCs are improving AI and supply system ?

Since you started flaming, it's hardly surprising, even less so with your unfounded accusiations.

the only HoI 3 expansion that improve AI and supply system is SF(for now at least, we have FTM coming out soon), the rest is free patches.
but if you want to play a good game in HoI 3, then SF is all you need with 2.04 patch that is free to download in this forum

You can download a couple of very good mods from the mod section of this forum. For free.

This has been a very good game ever since it was released, although there were surely a couple of serious problems with it. These were fixed by free patches however. HOI3 vanilla patched up to 1.4 is very much playable now, so there is no need to buy any new expansion if you don't want to in order to be able to enjoy the game.
SF did a lot to improve gameplay, but also added a couple of new features warranting PI to ask you to pay for it.
Mods are free by definition, DLC's are optional and you don't need either to be able to play the game properly.

To be honest I don't understand what people want if they still complain about the game. HOI3 + SF + DiDay's ICE mod is by far the best game I've ever played.

i agree with him on the issue of SF , the AI control was something that should have been in HOI 3 for free ...

everything else since then has been DLC , which is fine to charge for in my book .

I'd agree HoI3 had a lot of problems on release, but I think by 1.3 it was pretty fun and 1.4 was really good. Your opinion may differ, of course, but I think it was a good game before SF (which was an expansion pack, not DLC).

HOI-SF is by far one of the best and most detained war/grand strategy games I have ever seen. The addition of a hierarchy to simulate the chain of command in itself was a huge improvement over other games. I mean having to take into account weather, terrain, and then supply for your armored/motorized divisions! I love it.

I have to second that Paradox's games are in a too poor condition when released, and even after some patches.
Started HoI3 with patch 3 (expected to have most bugs fixed) but still found several - that's even without trying to. So I personally find that PI do way to little testing before release - and are way to focused on future expansions you need to pay for that creating a proper product.

Don't misunderstand me - PI's games are in basic concept the best around, but currently I have started to have a dream... please someone start a company to create somewhat same games, but less bugs, and I'll be there for you. Hereby also implied, that PI would be out of my money and a lot of other shoppes probably closing down within a few years.

In general: PI please start to create proper tested products.

Do not get so excited, some one has forgot about the air force and navy.

I have bought HOI3 but held off playing because I am still hearing some bad things, especially in the naval areas & carriers in particular-which is one of my favourite aspects of WW2 sims.

I dont love the move to DLC personally. I understand that this seems to be the way the industry is going but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I cant help but think- 'this should have come with the game as standard but now Im being asked to pay extra for it.'

The DLC packs like common weapons is fair to have a price tag as this is 3rd party developed work but sprite & music packs I have no indulgence towards.

This is what I don't understand about the OP and people like him. When HOI3 came out it cost around $40 US or so. Today you can buy HOI3 + SF for less than that. If they KNOW PI games are bad at release they can wait for a year and get the game for much cheaper and patched. It was their decision and choice to buy it upon release knowing that there was a good chance it would need a patch or two.

And DLC's are not the same as expansions.

I dont buy DLC and am having a blast with HOI3 + SF + I.C.E, I dont feel Im missing anything. I dont use sprites and I often play or import my own music to the game.

When it comes to games like these one can't expect them to be 100% polished like your standard run of the mill recycled material that most companies barf out. Its a niche game in a market dominated by FPS, shiny graphics or console & Aps that cater to A.D.D individuals I'm willing to cut Paradox a lot of slack. Their games don't wear off, they're like a fine wine that gets better with age and some TLC by the community.

I would rather have this than nothing at all, however I do understand others may not have the patience I do, its a tough business path they have chosen to take but I am thankfull they did.

To the main point of general disappointment i can agree. Watching screenies of SF and reading comments of SF owners, i see no improvement over vanilla in regards of politics, diplomacy, supply, the pacific theatre and historical flavor yet. FTM announcements sound promising so far and maybe the game will grow mature with it. We'll see.

The bad thing is - the lesson is to wait some 2 years after release and only buy (on heavy discount then) after general customer mood shows satisfaction. That's bad for the customers and supporters of PI and bad for the company in regards of selling brand new products at full price.

EDIT: Still, i very much like both video dev diaries. For one, King is very sympathetic the way he excitedly explains the planned features. Secondly, those planned features sound promising in their own right.

The bad thing is - the lesson is to wait some 2 years after release and only buy (on heavy discount then) after general customer mood shows satisfaction. That's bad for the customers and supporters of PI and bad for the company in regards of selling brand new products at full price.
I buy the games at full price because I want to support the company and make sure they produce games that I love for a long time to come. Although there were problems with the initial release, even pre SF the game was excellent - especially with ICE - and improves with every DLC and expansion.

I think if people judge whether they think a game is worth buying by general customer mood they must surely mean by the mood on the forums?? And if that is the case people should be aware that people rarely compliment when things go right and often criticise when they are unhappy. Nothing wrong with this, but it does mean the mood on the forum may not represent the general customer mood.
