---------------------------------------------------------------------------
From The Diary Of Pvt. Dimitri Ivanovich Petrenko, 55.Rifle Division, 47.Rifle Corps, Smolensk Front, June 22, 1941.
'' Everyone in my unit is confused. The news from the borders of the Byelorussian and Ukrainian SSR are terrible. Soldiers of the 7th Shock Army that are en-route to Minsk said that Hitler advances with three million soldiers and thousands of tanks towards Moscow. We asked Mj.General. Zubov about what happened, but he only said that we must retreat to Smolensk. It seems every division west of the Dnieper and the Daugava is doing the same thing.''
Red Army retreating
''We hope that Comrade Stalin lead us to victory, but no one is sure about that, even our generals.''
