From the announcement:

* You will not be considered a power monger for taking provinces when attacked,
only when annexing or doing offensive wars.

Question: if you get dragged into a war because of your alliance, does that count as an offensive war -- or does that depend on whether your ally was attacked or the one declaring the war?

In other words, you will ONLY be classified as a power monger if YOU BEGIN THE WAR. If your alliance declares it and then annexes those provinces.

HOWEVER,

IF you are attacked yourself, and take enemy provinces as result of the conflict, you will NOT be considered a powermonger because you did not initiate the conflict.

So as Johan said, either you or any one of your alliance initiates the war = considered as powermongering.

Hopefully I got that right..

Great, thanks for the answers. A further question: does the existence/absence of a casus belli play any role? I.e. are you powermongering, if you lose one of your core provinces after you were attacked, declare war after the five-year peace period, and only take back what is rightfully yours (and nothing more)?

In that case, you are not at war and hence, you cant claim any provinces. So no, you wouldnt pose as a power-monger.

'We do not want your tired or your hungry, it is your corrupt we claim'

Well, of course we need to have a hard coded definition that says that if the player is Finnish and he attacks Sweden he is the worst war mongler there is ;-))

Actually, you should only be considered a threat when you TAKE provinces in a peace. If you get in to war and loose, I guess you are just pathetic and should not be seen as a war lord of any sort ;-))

bmollson, i think thats how it works. If you declare war on a nation and dont take any provinces, just indemnities, then your bad boy value doesnt go up. somebody corect me if im wrong.
