People have been very nice, polite and good at telling when to play etc in DEG but I think these guidelines might be usable in HOI MP as well as in EU2 MP where they are definately neccesary. I consider using them in DEG if the situation arises.
MP Campaign rules.
GM = Game Master. Organizer and usually starter of the game.
Host = The person with the computer that the game is run on. Usually the person with the fastest and most reliable connection available.
Pre-session
If you are not able to participate in a session you should
1. Announce this in the forum discussion thread well ahead
2. Inform the GM about this,
3. Try to find and instruct a stand in for the session. If this is impossible you should state this on the forum and to the GM.
4. Give instructions to for the stand in.
Session start
1. Show up on time, 5 minutes before session is usually enough to download the save file before start.
2. If a player is not on time for the session his country will be given to a stand in or played by the AI. If his absence isn’t announced before the session he loses status as permanent player. The GM should appoint a new permanent player.
Game lobby – host and rehost
1. The GM decides what decisions will be taken. Don’t order people around unless you are appointed GM.
2. Don’t select a nation before the host has done so.
3. Don’t select a state before the GM has appointed you one if you are a stand in.
4. If the host is counting down for game launch refrain from writing unless its something vital that makes it necessary to delay game launch.
5. Don’t leave the keyboard while downloading. If you are the only one not selecting you make everyone in the game wait for you. Do whatever it is you have to do after the game has launched.
Game crash
1. Go directly to game lobby as fast as possible
2. The host and GM should allow a maximum of 5 minutes for a crashed person to reboot his computer. Otherwise he has to join on next rehost. The country will be played by any available stand in or the AI.
Player drop
1. If the player that dropped is in war, or in a especially difficult situation fx lots of revolts, the game should be saved and rehosted immediately. GM decision only.
2. If the dropped players country is at peace and the situation stable the game should be kept going the year out and one more full year. The player should then be picked up in a rehost. Lost assets during this time (fx. sunk navies due to attrition should be edited by the GM before next session.)
Player behaviour
1. Players are encouraged to roleplay their states and behave civil to each other. No offensive remarks are allowed. The GM owns the right to ask an individual to leave/ban any player that breaks this rule.
2. If you want to leave the session due to unexpected reasons you should inform the GM that you are leaving and state the reason for doing so. Failure to abide by this means the GM can prevent you from playing the campaign again.
Forum Rules
1. The discussion thread is to discuss technical aspects of the game. Flaming of other players is not allowed. Discussion of in game events is here strongly discouraged unless it cant be discussed on ICQ or in game or deals with technical aspects such as editing, player absence, session dates/times etc.
2. The After Action Report thread (AAR) serves as a biased forum where one might present ones views of the game from ones one perspective. This presentation should be in character and not overly aggressive to other players.
In game rules
1. Unless a house rule states so, any action in the game is allowed. It is allowed to stab hit, refuse to answer peace until government collapse occurs, read and act according to player states events files, create unhistorical alliances etc.
2. Pausing is allowed only in rare circumstances. Participants in war or in special situations as peace negotiations should ask the GM or host to decrease speed if necessary.
Depending on game stability the game should be run on normal/below normal speed in peacetime and below normal/slow speed in wartime.
