People have been very nice, polite and good at telling when to play etc in DEG but I think these guidelines might be usable in HOI MP as well as in EU2 MP where they are definately neccesary. I consider using them in DEG if the situation arises.

MP Campaign rules.

GM = Game Master. Organizer and usually starter of the game.
Host = The person with the computer that the game is run on. Usually the person with the fastest and most reliable connection available.

Pre-session
If you are not able to participate in a session you should
1. Announce this in the forum discussion thread well ahead
2. Inform the GM about this,
3. Try to find and instruct a stand in for the session. If this is impossible you should state this on the forum and to the GM.
4. Give instructions to for the stand in.

Session start
1. Show up on time, 5 minutes before session is usually enough to download the save file before start.
2. If a player is not on time for the session his country will be given to a stand in or played by the AI. If his absence isn’t announced before the session he loses status as permanent player. The GM should appoint a new permanent player.

Game lobby – host and rehost
1. The GM decides what decisions will be taken. Don’t order people around unless you are appointed GM.
2. Don’t select a nation before the host has done so.
3. Don’t select a state before the GM has appointed you one if you are a stand in.
4. If the host is counting down for game launch refrain from writing unless its something vital that makes it necessary to delay game launch.
5. Don’t leave the keyboard while downloading. If you are the only one not selecting you make everyone in the game wait for you. Do whatever it is you have to do after the game has launched.

Game crash
1. Go directly to game lobby as fast as possible
2. The host and GM should allow a maximum of 5 minutes for a crashed person to reboot his computer. Otherwise he has to join on next rehost. The country will be played by any available stand in or the AI.

Player drop
1. If the player that dropped is in war, or in a especially difficult situation fx lots of revolts, the game should be saved and rehosted immediately. GM decision only.
2. If the dropped players country is at peace and the situation stable the game should be kept going the year out and one more full year. The player should then be picked up in a rehost. Lost assets during this time (fx. sunk navies due to attrition should be edited by the GM before next session.)

Player behaviour
1. Players are encouraged to roleplay their states and behave civil to each other. No offensive remarks are allowed. The GM owns the right to ask an individual to leave/ban any player that breaks this rule.
2. If you want to leave the session due to unexpected reasons you should inform the GM that you are leaving and state the reason for doing so. Failure to abide by this means the GM can prevent you from playing the campaign again.

Forum Rules
1. The discussion thread is to discuss technical aspects of the game. Flaming of other players is not allowed. Discussion of in game events is here strongly discouraged unless it cant be discussed on ICQ or in game or deals with technical aspects such as editing, player absence, session dates/times etc.
2. The After Action Report thread (AAR) serves as a biased forum where one might present ones views of the game from ones one perspective. This presentation should be in character and not overly aggressive to other players.

In game rules
1. Unless a house rule states so, any action in the game is allowed. It is allowed to stab hit, refuse to answer peace until government collapse occurs, read and act according to player states events files, create unhistorical alliances etc.
2. Pausing is allowed only in rare circumstances. Participants in war or in special situations as peace negotiations should ask the GM or host to decrease speed if necessary.
Depending on game stability the game should be run on normal/below normal speed in peacetime and below normal/slow speed in wartime.

First session was played today but you have just qualified for 1st sub (if you would like to be).

We started in 36 and rushed on to Feb 39 I think. We play at commonly decided times but standins will surely be needed.

DEG HoI game 2 started today, as follows:

Setup: 1936 scenario, normal difficulty, normal AI aggressiveness

Germany: Tom
Italy: MadViking
Japah: Juv
USA: Tuuttu
UK: Phadishar
USSR: Aldo

We played until January 1939, with the following summary:

Italy took Ethiopia and swallowed all the Balkan minors in an early 1936 annexation spree. China never got it's election event (bug?), so eventually it was decided that would-be Axis nations join the Axis in early 1938, when Italy DOWed China. China and Siam where conquered by Japan, and in autumn 1938 the French AI DOWed the Axis. Germany overran Belgium and France, establishing Vichy, Italy conquered the middle east and eastern Africa. War is still being waged in the eastern parts of India between UK and Jap armies. Poland is neutral and not conquered.

Next scheduled play session is as follows:

Monday 7 July at 18:00 CET

If you can't make or will be a bit late on monday, ICQ me or Juv so we know about this.

Hey redawn, what is your ICQ number? We would love to have you in one of our games, either in our next game or as a stand-in in our current. And it's always fun with people who like to play as the UK (for some reason most people like to play Germany or USSR...).

Hope to hear from you.

I don't have one. I'm suspicious of the various chat programs (IRC, ICQ, AIM, MSNM, YahooM,etc) as they are incompatible and my experience of MSN messenger indicates that they are intrusive. What client do you use for ICQ? What strings are attached - spyware, popups, spam, etc?

No strings attached ;)

Just look into it on www.icq.com

I am currently using a computer at my parents house and is therefor using go.icq.com which is a clean web application with no software needed on my part (except a browser).

Great game today (gee, I wonder if I would say the same thing if it was my navy that got sunk), we played 9 months total, from 24 January 1939 to 20 October 1939.

This was the second session of our second DEG-game, with the following players:

Germany: Tom
Italy: MadViking
Japah: Juv
USA: Tuuttu
UK: Cicero (stand-in for Phadishar)
USSR: Aldo

The main events during this period:

1) Axis DOW Spain, with German forces attacking from France and Italian forces landing in Cartagena. The goal of this operation was (surprise surprise!) to get Gibraltar. At the start of the operation, there was 1 British division, with Germany invading with over 50 mechanized and armored divsions, and Italy landing around 50 infantry. To the Axis great surprise, the Gibraltar garrison was reenforced by an additional 34 (!) divisions. Despite this situation, the order to assault Fortress Gibraltar was given, with the Axis attacking with 123 divisions total. The weather turned to rain, and did not improve, causing the axis large losses and forcing them to retreat. No further axis attacks on this location occured (besides a German probing attack).

2) In an effort to break the stalemate in Gibraltar, Italy sent it's entire submarine force through the Straits of Gibraltar to starve out the UK forces. Many convoy ships were sunk, and finally a large naval battle took place when the Royal Navy arrived, with 118 ships vs the 56 Italian subs. After a long struggle the Italians retreated to a port on the Spanish coast. At this time the UK fleet made its greatest mistake, going east through the Straits to engage the Italian surface fleet waiting there. The subs in port were put to sea, and joined the battle. The situation was now around 110 Italian ships vs the 118 from the Roayl Navy, and the most ferocious sea battle in human history took place, resulting in the sinking of (almost) the entire Italian surface fleet and over 100 UK ships.

3) German forces invaded Holland, Denmark, Poland and Switzerland. The last French outpost (Cayenne in South America) was taken, after which France was annexed. The last Belgian outpost in Congo was taken, and Belgium also annexed.

4) Japan invaded and conquered India, and invaded and annexed Australia.

5) Italy invaded Turkey, annexing it.

So far, no war between Axis and Soviets. USA is not in war yet.

Next game session is planned for tomorrow (Tuesday 9 July) at 19:00 CET. If you can not make it, or are late, please send me or Juv a message on ICQ. See you all tomorrow!

Good session today guys.

Since the Japanses election event didnt trigger in 1937 we edited in it in jan 1939. Japan choose right wing government and finally the game works as it was intended to do. Still the extremely low US WE and very high USSR consumer goods requirement has probably hurt the allies more than the late attack on China and the higher consumer goods requirement and dissent hits for DoWing for Japan. The US will have a large responsability to save her allies once she enters the war. As usually the war will probably be settled to a large extent on the Russian steppes. Hope to see you all tuesday at 19.00 CET.

Padihsar. Since we heard nothing from you before, during or after the session today about being absent we must conclude that you left DEG and will give you country to cicero or any other willing player unless we hear something from you.

I was terribly busy in the last time but I am still interested in playing but I fear that I can´t commit to anything long-term. If you need a sub ask me on short notice. Maybe I can participate in the next game again.
