So I'm pretty new to this game and I've been playing as the Count of Bourbon in year 769 AD. I was wondering if there is any way to prevent King Karloman from dying. I know that this is a fixed event sorta like Poland-Lithuania PU in EU4 but is there any way to decrease the possibilities or prevent the death at all?

It's not fixed. The AI (or you as either Karling) pick between two choices. AI usually does this randomly, so in some games Karloman doesn't die.

For example in my Pfalz game I assassinated you (no offense) and inherited your county. How does this matter? It doesn't really, just amusing. Carloman lives in my game. Better than his brother too, who still isn't married. God I hate AI Karlings......no sense of self preservation.

Well be that as it may, it is to be expected when it comes to those Kareless Karlings... *Leaves Room*

You can pretty much set your watch to Karloman dying via the wrath of the RNG deity if you start the game from 769.

Basically what happens is there is a guaranted 50% chance he dies if the AI is Charlemagne.

Minus say, 5% for those rare times Charlemagne manages to die before the event triggers.

+20% for the typical Karling early death for no reason. So yeah, it's an Uncommon (not rare) game where Karloman lives, let alone lives long enough to do anything of note. Unlike Charlemagne though he at least has an heir to cushion his dynasty's self destructive behavoir of never marrying and losing all their land.

In my game even though neither are dead Karloman got overthrown. His son is a duke. Some guy under Elective has formed Burgundy and Middle Francia.

While I'm sitting here on the primitive Gavelkind side under Charlemagne getting raided to kingdom come.
