NOTE: This AAR is text heavy. If you are not prepared to read, go no further.

This is my third HoI2 AAR. My first one was Shadows of Destruction and my second one was East Wind Rain. I learned a lot writing the both and now I feel prepared to move forward. I also acquired Doomsday and it is a nice improvement. I am upping the difficulty/aggressiveness to the max in this game. I am playing as the Soviets and they have a huge army and incredible strategic position; so I feel confident that I am ready for this difficulty level. In East Wind Rain, I tried a different style that I didnt really hit my stride with, so I am going back to my Shadows of Destruction style.

I am going to be playing this game as an aggressively expansionistic Athiest Communist state. The goal of my nation's leaders is the eradication of religion and capitalism from the Earth. They are going to be shrewdly Machiavellian in their methods. I am also going to be introducing a connection between Byzantium and the Soviet Union through a fictitional archeological find in Yerevan, Armenia.

Primary Objective: Conquest or Puppet control over all nations in Eurasia.

Secondary Objective: Conquest or Puppet control over all nations on Earth.

*** DISCLAIMER ***

This AAR portrays a worldview EXTREMELY antagonistic to religion. If you are a very devout person and this offends you, consider yourself warned.

Game Settings:
HoI2 Doomsday v1.1

"Every instant of time is a pinprick of eternity."

--- Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius

Discussion between Josef Stalin and Dr. Khojanijazoff, Chief Archeologist at Moscow University
October 9th, 1934
Moscow, Soviet Union

Josef Stalin:
I have brought you here because my good friend tells me that you have a theory worth listening to. Something about the fall of Constantinople?

Dr. Khojanijazoff:
Indeed, but the fall of Constantinople is only the beginning, Comrade Stalin. When the revolution destroyed the power of the Church, vast archives of manucripts were taken from the clergy and stored in a basement storeroom at the University. I have been studying the manuscripts for the past six months and I have made some remarkable findings.

Josef Stalin:
Go on.

Dr. Khojanijazoff:
In 1543, the Ottoman Empire lay siege to the city of Constantinople for what would be the last time. A cleric by the name of Anthemius managed to escape the city on a small sailing ship by sailing north into the Black Sea. He sailed to the coast of Georgia and landed undetected. He made his way southeast to a monastery high in the mountains near Yerevan. It was here that he hid a vast cache of Byzantine documents. When the Turks finally took the city, they slaughtered the clergy and thus fell the most likely individuals to know this information. It was for this reason that Anthemius' escape was unknown to all.

Josef Stalin:
And how is it that you came across this information?

Dr. Khojanijazoff:
There were additional documents in Constantinople that fell into the hands of the Turks after the city fell. In several of these documents are hidden messages detailing the escape of Anthemius and his valuable cargo. These messages were undiscovered by the Turks and lay dormant for centuries in the Ottoman Imperial archives. In the chaos of defeat in 1918, several Greek Orthodox clerics managed to gain possession of the documents and smuggle them out of the Ottoman Empire into the new Soviet Union. They were hidden from the Party and taken to the archives of the Moscow Patriarch. These archives were confiscated by the soldiers of the revolution in 1921 and stored in the Moscow University where I discovered them just six months ago. Apparently, in the chaos of the revolution, there was no time for our own clerics to examine these documents carefully. I believe I am the first researcher to have discovered these encoded messages.

Josef Stalin:
What do you believe Anthemius carried with him?

Dr. Khojanijazoff:
I do not know. However, I do know that there are a vast number of documents currently considered lost to history that should have been in Constantinople when it fell. These range from ancient Greek plays to lost portions of the Bible. In addition, it is possible that Anthemius carried valuable relics and icons with him when he fled. Of course, this is all speculation. I have no definitive answer to that question.

Josef Stalin:
I will provide you with the funds necessary to go the Yerevan and begin digging. I want to be fully informed of your progress. You will conduct this operation in absolute secrecy. No one in the West must know of your actions. If you find anything at all, I need to know immediately.

Dr. Khojanijazoff:
Of course, Comrade Stalin. You will be informed of my every move. Thank you for your support.

Josef Stalin:
You are welcome. Now go and begin planning your expedition!

Good beginning. I greatly enjoyed your first AAR, and I also think the style you used in that one does better justice to your tales then the narration that you used in the second one. That’s just my opinion however, both styles have a certain appeal.

"The Christian resolution to find the world ugly and bad has made the world ugly and bad."

--- Friedrich Nietzche

Discussion between Josef Stalin and Dr. Khojanijazoff, Chief Archeologist at Moscow University
December 18th, 1935
Moscow, Soviet Union

Josef Stalin:
Come in, Doctor. I hear you have made a discovery. Your telegraph was intentionally vague, so I am eager to hear your report.

Dr. Khojanijazoff:
Comrade Stalin, I have kept my discovery secret from everyone. There are twelve stone vessels currently being transported to the Moscow University by rail under heavy guard. These stone vessels contain over four hundred ancient manuscripts as well as priceless Roman artifacts. There is one item in particular of such exceptional value that I personally carried it here today.

** Dr. Khojanijazoff's assistant enters bearing a small box and sets it on the table. **

** Dr. Khojanijazoff opens the box and reaches inside. He pulls out an ancient book and opens it. The pages bear densely packed lines of Greek text. **

Dr. Khojanijazoff:
This is the personal Bible of Constantine the Great. It was constructed by Constantine himself sometime between 321 and 324 A.D. It contains working references and notes in addition to the basic text. This text is proof that Constantine edited the Bible by his own hand. The notes within the pages clearly indicate that he shaped the book to suit his political needs. Insisting on the removal of certain passages that might encourage dissent from the Imperial position, the invention of whole chapters to create doctrines supported by the Emperor, and the intentional distortion of passages to allow vague and malleable interpretations. It is this Bible which Constantine went on to champion at the Council of Nicea and legally codify as church doctrine through the power of the Emperor.

No greater proof of Christianity's falsehood has ever been revealed!

Josef Stalin:
Excellent! You have done well, Dr. Khojanijazoff. The value of this artifact is priceless! I take it you found Anthemius' cache? What more was contained in it?

Dr. Khojanijazoff:
Anthemius' personal notes indicate that he fled Constantinople not to protect these documents but to intentionally hide them. He feared that the Turks would use them to discredit Christianity and induce mass conversion to Islam. He believed that these documents represented the Achilles' Heel, if you will, of Christianity and that they must be hidden to protect the faith. At the same time, he respected the incredible historical value of the texts enough to not destroy them and instead hide them for future generations to uncover. He had hoped that Christianity would take over the world and then the later discovery of the documents would be kept secret by the Church, yet protected so that those with great power would know the Truth.

Josef Stalin:
We shall bring the Truth to the world, Doctor. I will order the construction of a special museum devoted to this find. You will be named Curator upon its completion. Until such time, you will keep this information secret. Continue to study the works that are being transported by rail once they arrive. You will be given an entire floor of the Moscow University research center. I shall make an extensive staff available to you for translation and research. The entire University will be placed under military protection. When the time comes, we shall reveal to the world your find in all its glory!

Dr. Khojanijazoff:
Thank you, Comrade Stalin. I shall continue my work in secrecy until the time comes to reveal to the world the grand illusion of Christianity....

More dramatic than definitive proof that Christianity is a farce? Come on!

What good would an Ark of the Covenant do for Atheists? Kinda screw up the whole "there is no God" thing, wouldnt it?

And anyway, those things are cliches now. I had to be original!

EDIT: And just wait until the Soviet armored corps reaches 100 divisions! That will be a helluva dramatic moment!

Cliches though they may be, the world could very well be converted to the typically cynical athetists through the sheer irony of the biggest atheist country on Earth finding religous artifacts!

Or something.

And about the armored divisions, an even more dramatic moment will be when those 100 armored divisions are supplemented by 100 TP divisions, covered by twenty level V carriers, and 10 level V battleships and...(rambles on) all based within range of the American coastline! The drama would be rather lost though, as the Americans won't know it, unless of course...(rambles on some more)

So, it all makes sense really.

"Mankind is divided into rich and poor, into property owners and exploited; and to abstract oneself from this fundamental division ;and from the antagonism between poor and rich means abstracting oneself from fundamental facts."

--- Josef Stalin

Letter from Josef Stalin to the people of the Soviet Union
January 1st, 1936

Greetings Comrades,

It is with great joy that I write to wish you a happy new year.

It has come to my attention that much distress still exists within our glorious nation. A handful of officers at the highest positions in our government have acted out of personal interest and thus deprived our great people of the standard of living they deserve to enjoy! As a result, these individuals have been imprisoned for life. As a punishment for their indolence, they shall work all day to assist in producing goods for the common people for the remainder of their days.

Our navy had become a symbol of corruption and greed. It had become infested with decadent and lazy officers who have squandered the great resources of our nation upon frivilous pursuits. They have also been punished for their crimes against our nation. The entire navy has been scrapped by our naval yards for industrial materials. In a few years, we will give our navy new life, but for now it shall be slain so that it may rise from the ashes as a powerful pheonix!

For the next several months, as a token of gratitude for the endless toil of our workers to improve our great nation, we shall channel so much industry as we can spare to the improvement of our lives. The capitalists proclaim their system is the only one capable of meeting the needs of the people. What lies these demons tell! They would just as soon have the common man dying in the street so that they could ride in guilded automobiles and dine on fine caviar! What care have they for the working man? Nay! The Soviet Union is more than capable of providing vast surpluses for its people. And provide it shall!

Our great army is converging upon our capital. It shall be retrained, purged of fascist and capitalist loyalties, before being redeployed for the greater defense of our nation! Our officers have decided to abandon the old Czarist militarism which sacrifices our people's blood on the altar of victory! We shall pursue a new strategy pioneered by Mikhail Tukhachevsky in which our armies shall be led by a wall of steel tanks! No more shall we fear our neighbors. Nay! They shall fear us!

I will leave you with one promise, my comrades. In this coming year, a great secret shall be revealed. Our brilliant scientists have uncovered the ultimate truth; a secret so powerful that its revelation shall strike terrible discord and fear throughout the capitalist and fascist nations of the world! Our geniuses have discovered the next great philosophical leap for mankind. And it shall be revealed in short order.

The future is coming, Comrade. A future of brilliance and strength. Expect no less from the only thing worth dying for: COMMUNISM! Expect GREATNESS!

Enclosed with this letter you shall find 15 additional ration cards. An additional 30 shall be distributed within the coming weeks. Use these cards to acquire a variety of fantastic products soon to be delivered to your local distribution centers. Live well, Comrade!

(Disbanded all brigades except Engineer)

I have $300 currently saved to spend on myself. I went to the store to look at how much a new processor/motherboard would cost me. Answer = $350+

So I was browsing through games and saw DD. $20... so I got it. I was bored, what can I say? :D

I have a deal with my wife that each month we get $300 out of our paychecks to spend on ourselves. Usually I spend my money on books. I have about $2000 in books. So my total never stays high for long cuz I am constantly bleeding off smaller amounts for nice books. But my birthday left me flush with cash and I was rather pissed that Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion wont run at a decent speed on my 2.4ghz PC, so I am going to upgrade it when I get the cash.

"Conscription is the vitality of a nation, the purification of its morality, and the real foundations of all its habits."

--- Napoleon Bonaparte

Discussion between Josef Stalin and Mikhail Tukhachevsky
April 27th, 1936
Kremlin, Moscow, Soviet Union

Josef Stalin:
For the last four months we have filled our people with bread, sated them with vodka, filled their homes with fine things, and placed in their hearts great satisfaction. This was not a petty exercise in indulgence. It was a preparation. A poor man strives to be wealthy, but he will not die to make it so. A wealthy man made poor, however, shall fight to the death to restore his position. So it is with the people. Having been given their fill of life, the Soviet people will fight vigorously to defend their nation.

We shall now reveal to the world a powerful secret. It was discovered in late December of last year, only now will it be shared. We have uncovered ancient Byzantine artifacts detailing the decisions of Constantine the Great. His personal bible, diary, and other writings are in our hands. A grand museum in Moscow will be unveiled on May 1st and a declaration shall be made to the world that Soviet archeologists have uncovered ancient texts which prove, definitively and without doubt, that the whole of modern Christianity is a sham of collosal proportions.

This revelation will not be taken lightly in the West. I anticipate it will lay the seeds of deep divisions amongst their people. Perhaps enough friction will be created to throw the world into war. We must be prepared for this.

I have brought you here today to seek your counsel. We have in our possession a mighty army deployed defensively along our Western border. I have made special arrangements for peace in the East. We now have the industrial strength and energized workers to expand our mighty army in a direction of our choosing. How shall we proceed?

Mikhail Tukhachevsky:
Comrade Stalin, I have spoken extensively with our own generals and with several officers in the German army. I believe that the future of war will be decided by the tank. The Germans are developing a new strategic doctrine called the Blitzkreig, or Lightning War. Under this strategy, armored divisions are used in concentrated attacks to break through the enemy lines, encircle his slow moving infantry forces, and then strangle them. I believe this strategy will shape the future of warfare. We have but four armored divisions at our command. These must be expanded greatly.

However, we must first modernize the army that we have. Our infantry are burdened by obsolete equipment and tactics. They must be enhanced before we begin production on new armored divisions.

Josef Stalin:
I agree, Mikhail. I shall take the necessary steps to modernize. How long do you think this process will take?

Mikhail Tukhachevsky:
At least six months, Comrade Stalin. Perhaps more.

Josef Stalin:
Then we shall begin immediately. Inform the armaments board of your needs as soon as they can be drawn up.....

(Italy annexed Ethiopia)
(Dissent reached zero...FINALLY!)
(Army completely redeployed across Eastern frontier; heavily against Finland)
(5 spies operating domestically. KGB still growing)
