Look around Dacia and Thrace, notice how far south the danube river seems to be located? What happened to the Thrace region (Bulgaria)? Don't you think there's something wrong there? The river is just too far south of Dacia!

I actually find it very important to correct such errors, not only because it's wrong but also because it's so easy to do with the way the engine is. ;)

Other things like for gameplay reasons islands being generaly too big.

But I must say that Paradox Interactive have done a great job with improving the textures and the 3D part of their engine. :) I like the Carpathians the most. :)

It's more like Carpaths are 100km too south, which in turn pushes the Danube south by the same amount.

Approximate chance that this will get fixed so close to release: ~0%

Not that I care really.

My main gripe with the map is that Lesbos isn't it's own province like it should be. Oh well, I guess I'll just go play CK as Count of Lesbians.

I remember the same stuff happening with EU3, there were a bunch of map correction mods out, so it looks like someones gonna have to do that for Rome too. :(

How do you know it's incorrect shape of Danube AT THAT TIME?

You know, rivers changed a lot since then.

^ True, but if you look at a modern map, you will see that the Danube river is more north than that, and so are the Carpathian mountains. This isn't really a "huge" problem, but I'd like to see it get fixed as soon as possible.

Of course, us fans tend to be particularly thorough and useful when it comes to the overall improvement and accuracy of the game. I just found it funny how close that 'timetable' was to the truth. :D

i actually even said this to Johan in an email recently...i don't think they care too much right now, as i can see eu3-s latest expansion will modify the map aswell (atleast in iberia) so i hope this might be corrected later

but yes you are right about the incorrectness, looky here:

Carpathian Basin

not just that the 'Danube' is messed up, it seems Paradox always forgets 'Tisza' aswell, and the 'Balaton lake' is not likely to go live a nomad lifestyle just because this game is in the roman era... these are failures and not the result of 'watermove' through the centuries (just to point out that this - the game - is not the correct map at all)

i hope that paradox team will realize how many people would like this to be corrected and they will correct it, i understand that mods like Magna Mundi and others try always to repair/expand things messed up at release, but even if these mods are mentioned at gamesites on the net, it is somewhat ashaming for the developers if after release of a mod or two noone plays anymore with the 'vanilla' game because the people feel it was incomplete (also i don't think a product should be release the with the thinkwise that 'they will do the work for us anyway")

You know, rivers changed a lot since then.

just what i thought some will say... the carpathian waters did not change that much (actually nearly nothing), the roman province Pannonia, that is now mostly the western part of Hungary was bordered by the Danube, try to use the current map to create a roman empire bordering the Danube and you will see a mess, not just because the incorrect rivers but also because the weird provinces around there

to put it simply, you won't be able to see such borders ingame:
pannonia.jpg

the Danube had a very important 'Job' as roman border, nothing like that can be done in the game
hg_d_gaul_d1map.jpg

I agree 200% with C-T and Lucius Julius, EU:Rome strives to be a lot more historical correct than R:TW, and this is not just up to the playable nations and their positioning, but the correctness of the map itself awell

EDIT: not that anyone misunderstands me: i am a fanboy of paradox like many others around here, their games are better than most of the others, but this is the third game from them in a row where the first thing that interests me is "did they manage to make the map this time better?" (i know that anything else -maybe except the graphics- is always great, so i just ignore those at the first sight)

@Jorian - An excellent post. RTW was released with hundreds of known small errors and a situation developed as you pointed out, that no one with any knowledge played the stock game after a certain corrective mod (CVP) was released. Oddly enough the mod with a several page detailed correction list with full code references was sent to the developers weeks before the release and CA completely ignored it.

I am also a big fan boy of Paradox and a key element why I love the company is because it tries to pay attention to all the little historical details for its products.

thanks for your understanding :)

Even if i would want to want to flame the mapmakers i couldn't (and i don't want to) do it with '100% power', as i don't have much knowledge about the whole roman era, just shards of it.
The only thing i could await from a map of these times would be a map that is geographically correct, and on what you could archieve the borders of the Roman Empire through the ages (meaning borders like the ones of Hadrian), nothing else would i even realize to be bugs (well, except maybe if Rome itself would be misplaced  )

...btw, as we already talk about the map, did any of the modders of EU3 already comment on if they make a new one for Rome?
