Hi there,
in order to help those people who are new to paradox i wanted to explain "the cycle". Let me start by explaining that i love paradox. I love them the same way an old married couple love each other. The type of love that accepts flaws, that understands the way things are and has long since abandoned the ideal in favour of the real.
with that in mind... here goes
1, Announcement of expansion with added Hype
2, followed by many weeks of dev posts explaining new features and changes to old systems. this section is lots of hype plus some rants on the forums by people guessing what this stuff might mean.
3, announcement of release date for new expansion including pre-order Hype
4, 3 weeks of over hype while the devs code freeze and test.
5, release! gushing ejaculations of hype many posts of congratulations and lots of love for the new shinny things.
6, 2 days after release the angry posts start on this forum when people find bugs.
7, 5 days after release some kind of optional beta fix is released which will catch some nasty bugs the devs spotted pre release, but realistically will not catch many of the things which have been pointed out by players post release. There has not been enough time yet.
8, 2 to 3 weeks after release, levels of toxicity in the forums reach a nasty peak. encouraged by peer pressure, casual players start to join in even though they have not seen the majority of bugs they have read about. Its normally at this point that Paradox stop talking to the community for a bit. I think this is tactical and sensible. they are busy fixing stuff, and any communication in the toxic environment of the forum will be twisted and made into something bad.
9, 6 to 8 weeks after release. most bugs will have been patched. The game is stable. the forum toxicity levels are back down below 50%. Devs are out of their silos and once again communicating.
10. Ongoing bug fixing. return to point 1.
i don't think i have missed any steps. As far as i can tell we are currently at point 8.
If you are about to write a post about how bad the new expansion is, my advise would be to not bother. you are not adding anything, just echoing the noise.
If you are furious about the issues you have read about in the forum, my advice is stop reading the forum until the end of Jan. Chances are you will not experience most of the issues anyway.
If you are really annoyed because they released a broken bug filled expansion then the best thing you can do, is not pre order the next one. avoid the Hype, and wait a few weeks after release.
I hope you all have a peaceful winter solstice themed holiday. Enjoy your family and count yourself lucky you don't have any real world problems.
trust me, Stellaris will be great by the end of Jan.
