The two are hardly mutually exclusive. They didn't call the conquerer of Ireland "Strongbow" for nothing, and he was every bit a Knight. While your average run-of-the-mill archer wasn't noble it would make sense for their commander to be (and Vosh's Char. is a Count). But if he doesn't want to be a leader character then he could certainly join the ranks of the knights and use his bow in appropriate situations. So either route makes perfect sense, IMHO.

Edit: err, he's not a count. Don't know where I got that idea. Just 'Sir Henry of Tintagel'.

Double Edit: 100 posts in the OOC thread! And only 1/4 rambling non sequiters by me! Woohoo! :D

I'll ave a sprinkle of archers too once I get my posting done, and Phalanx I can add the welsh option if you want it?

None of my groups will be heavily written for though :)

We haven't met Stroph's character yet have we? I thought I would have noticed a group Templars :D

I still have a problem with WHY Templars would fight in a secular group and not under their Grand Master?

V, if you're willing to write them, then sure.

As to your recurring question of why the templar are fighting with men from outside the Order...

At the moment, I can say nothing more sophisticated than 'because I said so,' or rather, 'because the Pope said so.'

A better answer will be revealed during the story. It will, I'm predicting, satisfy everyone's qualm (and I'm pretty sure I used that word incorrectly, but I think it shows my point) with the subject, except for yours. I don't think I'll ever settle your concern. If it'll bother you that much, just don't read Stroph's posts. :D

Nono I can live with much but it just seemed odd that parts of the templars would be outside the order..

On a different note... you do know that Venice is all water and no ground?

That there isn't a single field near the city as it is an island? and that there are NO horse in Venice proper? Furhter that the large commercial and naval harbours of Veince are on other seperate Islands?

Thus the bowstring in might just be on the landside instead of in Venice proper :D

Spoilsport? Yes definetly :(

I'll shut up with the Templars.. I know they are cool and all it just bothers me they are not with their order, not so much the EX templars as the real templars that I understood Stroph to be?

Oh and I'm not mistaken when I think I haven't seen a templar post form him?

Its all very confusing the first few days :)

If you want it Vosh, it's yours.

Henry is a knight of England who had very poor lands. The only way to make sure there was meat on the table most nights was to hunt. He picked up very good archery skills that way. His sword skills are adaquate, nothing more.

Given his current situation, it wouldn't make much sense for him to command anything. He's ragged and unproven. After a few weeks in the field, if he shows his stuff, then he could be given a small-unit command.

Why does everyone always want to be/ be associated with a Templar? What's worng with being a Hospitalier? AFAIK they were just as militarily badass warrior-monks. And they did charity work too, before during and after their fighting years. They were never tortured into confessing to heresy either.

Also shouldn't there still be Teutonic Knights in the Holy Land? IIRC it was only after this period that they withdrew to concentrate on the Baltic/Lithuania region. Though I'd wager they're all marching with Barabarossa's army. But in any case I don't understand the whole Templar Mystyque thing.

Valdemar- My character is Alexandre du Kayne...not McKay...:) Plus the Templar Grand Master is currently 'enjoying' the hospitality of Saladin. He was captured at Hattin. He doesn't regain his freedom for a few more years. Unless we change that historical note...

Now as for the West Field...it could be outside the city proper and therefore outside the watery part of the city. Plus there IS some walkways and streets, just not a lot of them, and not nearly enough to really do what would seem normal in a different city. Otherwise, your thinking is right on that part...

Yes, I have been a bit busy, but I should be able to get something up later tonight...I"ll be introducing another character...

sorry about the name A, yes I know he is captured.. we discussed it on page two :p

I just disagreed with templars fighting in a secular band of ragtags thats all :D

D I agree, and as you will see the Hospitallers are very badass ;) In fact they were only slightly less powerfull (I researched the Knight Orders for the CK beta) but kept a bit more out of secular politics and spread their affiliations a tad wider, thus not getting caught in the powerplay of the French King over his wish to nominate his own Pope (the french king had let the templars run his exchenquer, whci they did as bankers for many a nation or noble, but the French King also owed them huge amounts thus by reducing them completely he recouped his debts, their bankng business and more inportantly their vast lands in France, he never got their money, not their busines.. most of it melted seemlessly into the Hospitallers businesses and the men into the Spanish Knight orders) but he did get the land :)

The Teutons left the Holy land a bit earlier having far less possiesion there and removed their headquarter to Venice actually before finally removing it to Marienburgh in Preussen.. there they settled as one of several knight orders, and finally merged with the local large but poor "Brothers of the Sword"

Both Hospitaller and Teutons exists today.. the Hospitallers as both the KNight order of Malta (their final refuge after Cyprus and Rhodes) and a poretestant (english Angelican actaully) help organisation :)

Wnat more? The Teutons alsoe covernted parts of their activities to protestantism, thus several of their German Chapter houses are in fact protestant, most noteworthy the North German ones :)

Both orders still bestow knight hoods though the Maltese one is VERY exclusive :)

Actually, my view of this character is as a light infantry/archer/scout. He is a quick man, a good hunter and will be bringing a fast, light horse with him. I see him riding ahead, maybe in charge of a small group of horsemen, acting as the eyes of the company. I don't know if that fits in well or not, though, so I'll throw it out there for comment.

Andre the Giant, God rest his soul. Best wrestler appearance in a movie ever! What's remarkable is how desperately ill he was while filming that. In the scene were he catches Robin Wright he nearly collapsed even though she only weighed around 100 lbs. His body was just so weakened by the heavy load.

Now I'm sad :( I'm going to go pet my kitty.
