While yes it'd be nice if they could add s special mechanic for the Hansa down the line I'd very much see it as a formable tag meanwhile. If I become a really powerful hamburg or lübeck why should I be forced to form Hannover or westphalus (that tag shouldnt even be in the game it was a client state nothing more), of course a powerful german republic should be able to form the hansa.
*City leagues in HRE
*Switzerland mini-HRE
*Deeper native federations
*Japanese mini HRE
??
Not to mention a generic HRE like mechanic for imported empires from CK2.
Merchant republic fits Lübeck better, IMO.
The name perhaps but the merchant republic mechanics in eu4 are based on venice not on the german free cities.
The splitting of the Hansa might be a boon to Denmark, since normally the Danish lands tend to end up white on the map in my games. On the other hand, if the former Hansa league works together a horde of OPM's could be even more powerful than a single tag.
Again Paradox is overshooting, denmark did badly in last patch so let's remove the hansa
and make sweden no longer historical rivals, get ready to see danish scandinavia blob all over northern HRE in every game.
Sorry if I sound bitter but they just removed my favourite tag and gave us nothing in return. They are seriously mistreating Niedersachsen, not only did they decide to name the culture westphallic, but now they've removed the only major tag in that part of germany that wasn't a french (Westphalus) or english (hannover) client state (never mind that there is a client state system so neither of these tags have much reason to exist any more).
