The Commune of Rome and City COAs

Okay, so last I heard about the upcoming republics DLC, they said they won't have the commune of Rome because it will require a total revamp of the county of Rome. In the current game, the county's capital is a bishopric named Rome while under papal rule, and in order to make the Commune of Rome the church holding needs to change into a city holding.

Why not rename the holdings in Rome so the church will be named "The Vatican" (or Il Vaticano) and one of the cities be named "Rome" (or Roma). That way when the commune of Rome takes over, it puts Rome as the capital. If Westminster and London are separate holdings then why can't Rome and Vatican be as well?

Speaking of Rome and London, why aren't the Coat of Arms correct?

And many others. I know Paris, Berlin, Stockholm, and other major European population centers have their own flags and CoAs.
I am willing to pay for a barony Coat of Arms pack DLC (I already bought the other two Dynasty shields packs).

Three things: one - the decision to move capital to Rome does what you want - rename bishopric to Latium and one of the castles to Rome, so it is perfectly doable. Two: Constantinople has castle and bishopric both named Constantinople, so it's not even needed. Three: the CoA of the County of Rome looks very similar to the one you posted, only it does not have the little flag in the corner. Is the flag contemporary?

In the game files, it's b_hagiasophia. Ingame, it's localized as Constantinople. All you need to do is change the localization for b_rome to Il Vaticano and b_viterbo to Rome. The problem, of course, is then then there'd be no City of Viterbo, but you could change one of the other potential baronies to Rome and have it start built as a city.

Wow, How did I miss that? I even took the time to check before posting (although I was paying more attention to names of holdings). Yes the cross is supposed to be the same color as SPQR, I got the picture from the European Union City Portal.

I didn't notice that change either. I guess place names don't have to be unique after all.

The Vatican palace was not used for much of the game; the first pope to restore it to live in it was in the 15th century and it was largely abandoned by the time of the Avignon papacy if not before.

IMO Saint John Lateran would be a much better name for the diocese, as it's the cathedral church for the diocese of Rome. The only church of that importance in the Vatican won't be built until the 17th century.

I see the idea, but the thing is that the Pope's official title is the Bishop of Rome. Thus he would have the Bishopric of Rome to make him such, and especially if the Hagia Sophia got renamed to Constantinople to fit with the Patriarch's official title of Bishop of Constantinople it makes sense that Rome would be a bishopric. However I guess if they changed the Hagia Sophia back then they could change it to Lateran like the Rome Capital decision, but it would kind of mess with an Orthodox Patriarch of Rome's Pentarchy title.

I do feel that barony-tier titles should have their historical CoA (if it can be found) but this is probably a whole lot of work for not a lot of gain. Plus, you'd still have some be randomly generated, and then you'd have to recode the system so that only some baronies are random CoA and it's... yeah.

I hope Paradox will look at the setup of Rome in general for the next DLC. The nobility of Rome was quite powerful and often opposed to the papacy. This is currently very poorly represented in the game.

Well, it was one of the most important cities in Sweden since about 1300 (which is not saying much), due to it becoming capital and due the Hansa presence.

The coat of arms of London you posted is somewhat anachronistic since it wasn't around for much of the game, it was created in 1381. The coat of arms of Rome seems to be correct as is (the historical Commune of Rome had the same one).
