In 1648 the Polish - Lithuanian Commonwealth endured something that could concidered be a disaster - a cossack rebellion. This was a critical point for the Commonwealth, being the beginning of its downfall. This crisis could be placed into EU4 with various outcomes, depending on how the player handles the crisis.
The crisis would start in the 1650's. It would begin as a series of big cossack rebel stacks and a couple of events. The player would have a choice similar to the "Struggle for royal power" disaster - fight the rebels, or allow for concessions, like real life Poland did. I could see different outcomes:1. Poland grants concessions to the Cossacks, and an independent state emerges, similar to the Danzig event. It would be "The Hetmanate" led by Bohdan Chmielnicki. The state would be able to choose to become a vassal of Poland, Russia, or stay independent. Both Poland and Russia would get a subjugation CB's on it if it doesn't choose them.
2. The Middle Ground. After killing about half of the stacks a decision can be made to reform the Commonwealth into the Commonwealth of Three Nations. This is based upon the historical Union of Hadziacz, where a similar proposition was made. Upon forming the Commonwealth of Three Nations the PLC would get a new flag, and my proposition - the "Ruthenian" culture would either switch to West Slavic culture if that's possible, or the PLC would simply get a free culture slot. The new tag should also get new ideas, traditions and expansion routes into Russia, Hordes and the Ottomans, to make the transition worth it, since the current Commonwealth is basicly larp tier not offering much to be honest.
3. Crush the Cossacks entirely. The Commonwealth gets the "Colonise the Steppes" event with -25% culture conversion cost and +5 unrest in all Ruthenian Provinces for 20 years, Also missionary cost and strenght if Poland remains catholic. Ruthenian is removed as an accepted culture, and the culture of Lwow, Podole, Winnica and Lubnai changes to Polish automaticly.
It would add a little bit af flavor to the polish game. The cossack uprising is one of the most critical points in Polish History, and it's a shame it isn't present in EU4. Depending on how you handle it, it can severly weaken or strenghten the country.
