The combat system ruins the game.

In the real world, yes, but its not the sort of meaty topic that attracts people to read a dev diary. I suspect they were trying to make a mildly agreeable puff piece before signing off for winter break. They knew the warfare system they announced would be controversial, and worried that two controversial mechanics being announced back-to-back right before the devs went silent over break would kill hype. (Could you imagine if they released the wonders dev diary right after warfare?) So they just talked about flags.

I know, I was being facetious ;) but you are right, it's not the spiciest topic.

I don't think it is possible to honestly look at this graph and come to any other conclusion. The lie that the trend is just continuing is just that, a lie.
View attachment 841490

This is a far closer approximation of a trend line than anything that will ever connect the two red lines.
The problem with reasoning from the number of views is that it ignores the recency bias - older dev diaries have been around for longer, and so people have had more of an opportunity to view them. If you compare the number of views in this chart with the number of views today, you'll find that the number of views of DD#0 has grown by 1.6% and DD#21 by 3.1%, whereas DD#30 has grown by 12% and DD#40, the most recent one in the chart, has grown by 75%. That's why the views per day chart, which doesn't really show a drop in views after the war dev diaries, is a more useful data set for analyzing how the war dev diaries have affected dev diary readership.
